At least that what the Emmys say..... (http://\"http://cdn.emmys.tv/awards/2008pte/60thpte_noms.php\") (Howie has no shot- It's likely going to be Probst or Seacrest, and I'd make Klum a dark horse...Bergeron you really don't think of right away when you think of DWTS- If you asked a person on the street who the hosts of all five shows are, I'd think the show that you'd get the wrong answer/no answer to the most often is DWTS)
-
Why not? Some people are convinced American Idol and Star Search are game shows.
Heck, there are those who believe This Is Your Life is a game show.
-
I'd probably put the toss-up for host between Klum and Probst, but I have no real basis for that. As for best program, I'm still not sure whether the field is going to top Amazing Race.
/will be a little surprised if Jimmy Kimmel Live doesn't win Best Clip Package Editing
As for the topic, where else are you going to put DoND?

I would have thought it would have gone in the Daytime Emmy nominations- WWTBAM was in the Daytime Emmy lineup when it was in primetime...

I've got some ideas.

It falls into Reality-Competition. The name of the category is "Outstanding Host For A Reality Or Reality - Competition Program".
I see no problems, although it does irritate me when journalists write articles classifying shows like D/ND as "Reality". NBC even did so on their website.
-
Wasn't there a certain level of acceptance that if "Dancing" were to get a host nod, that it had to be a co-host deal with Harris as well?
Mind you, I'm glad it isn't .... just sayin'.
Also, I thought the academy's adoration for Amazing Race would mean an all-but-auto-nom for Phil Keoghan.
BTW, all prime-time game shows are now in the "Reality - Competition" category -- but none got nominated.
-
For this year's "Kids' Choice Awards" on Nickelodeon, which aired this past March, DOND and "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?" were both nommed for "Favorite Reality Show", along with Idol and "America's Next Top Model". Out of these, 5th Grader is more quiz show than reality show -- by Nick's definition, Wheel, Jeopardy and even TPIR could be "Reality" shows.
"Big Brother" is a reality show. "Survivor" is a reality show. "Hell's Kitchen" (my only favorite true reality show) is a reality show. DOND ain't.

I'm curious, why do you think it's a "true" reality show?

Has someone been reading Variety magazine a bit too much?
In a separate non-televised ceremony, Tom Bergeron will win the award for best use of the word "live" on a network colorcast.
-
Ever since I discovered a certain website, I can never read "nom" with a straight face again.

Iron Chef America should get a NOM NOM NOM.

Yeah, Lemon has issues with Variety, too.

'Tis certainly fitting if that show with a Cat gets it.

I assume you've seen the one with a cat, a feather, and the caption "Nom de Plume"?
Anyway, DoND is more like an "unreality" show, but so far there is no category of that type.

There are more than a few suitcase girls who seem to be typifying "unreality"... ;)

Simple -- people do stunts to win special rewards; they have TV cameras follow every move; they have the riffraff voted off at the end of each episode.

Fair. I don't agree that the definition is that rigid, but fair. The way you said it implied that you considered HK a "true" reality show whereas you didn't feel that way necessarily about Survivor and TAR, as if there was something "false" about those.

Not only is Howie nominated- the rumor is he's going to be one of the hosts of the Emmys.. (http://\"http://www.deadlinehollywooddaily.com/source-ids-of-this-years-emmy-hosts/#comments\")..along with the other four reality show host nominees...

Which network airs the Emmys this year? Don't they get to pick? (I assume that's why CBS gave us the always entertaining Bryant Gumbel a few years back, when he was their big new hire.)
And they'd avoid a lot of semantic arguments if they'd label the category "unscripted" rather than "reality."

It's on ABC this year....The networks get some input but it's the TV Academy's final decision I believe.
I think the thing is, there's still a possibility the actors could strike and boycott the Emmys, so they decided to make sure the show would at least have a host (or in this case, five) to do something for the broadcast...Bergeron could probably do it alone (and he has hosted the Daytime Emmys before), but at least this way the winner of the category will be there.
