First, a New York Post article:
Copycat Wipeout (http://\"http://www.nypost.com/seven/07202008/tv/copycat_wipeout__120500.htm\")
Second, a page from one of the executive producers, with the comparison video which was removed from YouTube:
MXC vs. Wipeout (http://\"http://www.localsports.biz/MXC/MXC-Wipeout.htm\")

When I saw your header, my first reaction was "Well, of COURSE it is, but that's really not news, is it?" To me, what moves this story from "shockingly predictable" to "OK, a little tacky" is the Wipeout producer's claim that they never-ever-ever considered Japanese game shows of any sort when developing their show.
And "Fear Factor with comedy"? Please.

I thought "Wipeout" was somewhat similar to Regis' second game show "Almost Anything Goes" of 33 years ago, which was based on a British format, IIRC.

"This is the natural evolution of 'Fear Factor', " says Goldberg. "Only with comedy."
I've always said to myself, "chris319 -- you know, the one thing missing from Fear Factor is comedy".
