Title: AOL's 20 greatest game shows
Post by: Vahan_Nisanian on August 18, 2008, 04:20:32 PM

Of all shows, Love Connection, is ahead of true classics, such as Name That Tune, and the various incarnations of Pyramid.

Because of that alone, I have only one thing to say to sum up this list:

That said, I chuckled when they listed "The $25,000 Pyramid", but have a picture from the 20K version instead.

This is the first list I've seen in awhile that included What's My Line?. Thus, I don't think this list is an epic fail, but do agree with the inclusion of Love Connection constituting such.

/Why that show?

///If not, who's paying these idiots to put that show on these lists?

//Actually, it's been mentioned.

Compared to a LOT of other lists, this one is actually pretty strong, and an awful lot of casual TV fans adored Love Connection.  I think this falls way, WAY short of 'Epic Fail'.

You could quibble with placement within the list, but they got all the right "big names" in there, and the inclusion of Line, Consequences and Twenty-one shows that the writers went deeper into the archives than 1972.

Save the photoshop projects, this isn't worthy.

The list was compiled by the same ISP that has given many of us former users nightmares.  'Nuff said.

To put it simply--the layman thinks "Love Connection" is a game show, even if we know it isn't.  Even if you point it out, they'll say "Then why is it on the Game Show Network?"  Ain't worth it.

Well at least it ain't f'in Studs.

/is it "freakin'" or "friggin'?"
//have seen both
///I don't care who's elected president but I'm worried about this.

The first usage:
(Yeah, I realize that NYSI had two relatively short runs, but....friggin' Studs, man!)
No, I've used both. It generally depends on how irritated I am, whether I use "freakin'" or "friggin'".

An awful lot of casual TV fans adore Face The Nation, too, but it's not a game show either.
However, I will continue to eat my pizza cheesy-crust first and enjoy it just as much.
I like the list this here group came up with last year (or was it two years ago?) better anyway.

I'm somewhat willing to include Love Connection into the game show tent for the following reasons:

1. Chuck Woolery as host.

2. Announcers Rod Roddy, Johnny Gilbert, Gene Wood, Rich Jeffries and, okay, John "Burt Luddin" Cervenka.

3.  Said annoucers did fee plugs and the words "and here is your host..."

4. Somewhat of a competition in selecting the dates.

5. Those audience vote thingies from Celebrity Sweepstakes.

6. Station in Detroit ran it in a block with Newlywed Game and Dating Game and it didn't seem out of place.

7.  We call "Love Experts" a game show. :)

Just because it's monday morning and I'm achy and grumpy and sneezy and about five other dwarves:
1. Maybe that makes the show an infomercial.
2. Cervenka also does MXC...and whether you want to call that a game show for our purposes, as opposed to those in Japan...
3. "House" does fee plugs, as does Fox Sports.
4. Meh.
5. Or TTTT. That's the one I can give you.
6. Neither would Oprah.
7. Yeah, but Friggin' Studs...

1.) Chuck Woolery hosted The Chuck Woolery Show. Not a game show.
2.) Jay Stewart and Charlie Tuna announced on The Mike Douglas Show. Johnny Gilbert on Dinah! Bob Hilton on the Home show. Neither are game shows.
3.) The Richard Simmons Show had fee plugs. As did Donahue.
4.) Beauty pageants are competitions, too.
5.) Vidal Sassoon.
6.) In Cleveland, it ran back-to-back with Action 3 News and didn't seem out of place.
7.) "We" does not include "me".
