Is there a host you would like to have seen more of but cannot because most of their work was not saved, or maybe because their careers happened before your time? For me it would be Art James. For years Peter Marshall fell into the category for me until the 'HS' repeats came along.
-
Bill Leyden for me. Though he did shows for Ralph Edwards, Monty Hall, Goodson-Todman and Bob Stewart, it seems like nothing of his is available to be seen.

And strangely, the one existing episode of You're Putting Me On is the pilot, and is hosted by Ron Hussman. There is one Leyden-hosted episode of Call My Bluff that GSN has aired.
Odd that he twice hosted shows that he was replaced during the run, once because he wasn't cutting the mustard (Call My Bluff), the other for health reasons (You're Putting Me On).

Bill Leyden made a guest appearance on a '60s prime-time adventure show; maybe it was The Man From U.N.C.L.E. And in the latest edition of EOTVGS there's a photo of him under Your First Impression in which he was wearing a patch over one eye.

The hosting of Jan Murray. A fair amount of his panel work has been saved but except for a 1950s episode of Treasure Hunt obtained through Shokus Video, I've seen nothing he's hosted.

There's an episode of Dollar A Second that exists (which may be on Youtube, as a matter of fact) hosted by Jan Murray. It is a treat.

How about one of the best ever, boundless energy, enthusiasm, knew how to wring every drop of drama from every point of a show?
Here's a clip of him at his other job, from 1976, one of the most hilarious lip sync jobs ever (notice when he sings the words "Open the door")...

I fear that it wasn't.
And back to the original subject, Geoff Edwards comes to mind--only because I never really watched him when TH and JACKPOT7x were originally in production.
And I was a little young to appreciate Fleming's J! (either version he did).

I have that episode on a DVD I got for Christmas that had these game show classics (I don't remember the exact title). There were four game show eps on the DVD, an ep of "The $64,000 Challenge, Dollar A Second, another game show I don't recall, and an ep of a TV show that was not a game show whatsoever, but an information show called "What Are The Odds". I found it interesting, but it had nothing to do with game shows in any way.
But yes, the Dollar A Second ep was indeed a treat. And it was MUCH better than that lame Bob Eubanks unsold pilot of the same name.

One forgotten host I would like to see is Bill Malone, host of the original Supermarket Sweep. Sadly he was killed in a car accident in 1974, so we won't see any retrospective interviews from him.

See, I read it completely differently. Unlike a lot of his non-comic contemporaries (Dennis James springs to mind), I think Parks "got" that he was a relic from a different era, and knew perfectly well how ridiculous it was for him to sing a contemporary song. So he sang it in a ridiculous way. I was laughing with him.

Robair and I saw this on air in 1976 and were cracking up. To our 15-year-old minds, this was a goof. But later, we realized that Bert was truly losing it.

Oh, did I mention I had the consummate misfortune to actually see that thing live on TV? And it burnt itself into my conscious. I cannot listen to the original without seeing Bert Parks open his mouth a full frickin' second before he sings "Open the door". Might explain a lot, actually...

Ah, Mackey memories.

Part of me wonders how Bert Parks continued to host Miss America throughout the '70s, but since it's now airing at 3 A.M. on The Petticoat Junction Channel, I guess maybe the traditionalists insisted.
Going back to the original question, I would have liked to have seen Nick Clooney a chance to host something a little more intelligent. And it would be nice to see Bill Rafferty again.

There is an episode of Bill's "follow-up" show, entitled The Honeymoon Race, that IS on the trading circuit. I managed to get that one from one of my trades with "Chuckie Baby' Donegan.
You can also add Steve Dunne to that list of forgotten hosts. You may not care, but I've named a "syndrome" after this man. It means a host doesn't get more credit than he deserves.
And might I also add that Wayne Cox, Al DuBois, and David Ruprecht are in danger of being added to that list as well; unless they already are.
Cordially,
Tammy

Put me down for Jim Peck being "forgotten". Moreso the "true" Jim Peck, since in the only available programs that are/were available from GSN, we see him either as a 'substitute host' (Jokers Wild) or the 'host of a gawd-awful show' (3's A Crowd).
Most of us will only get to see the real Jim in the handful of eps in the trading/YouTube rounds from the good shows he hosted that he helmed from beginning to end. (You Don't Say, Second Chance, The Big Showdown,...)

And within a minute of one another, in our respective houses some 12 miles apart. Spooky.

How about... Ron Ely?
In the beginning of the run of Face the Music, I think Ron had a bit of the "Patrick Wayne" syndrome, bellowing out "YOU ARE RIGHT!!!!!!!" when a player got the solution to a puzzle, and it's just the beginning of the game!
Still, he had some genuine charm and class, especially with the ladies. As the series progressed, Ron became much looser with the contestants and frequently joked about Tommy Oliver's orchestra, which was known to play off key.
Combine this with lights that flashed out of sync (or sometimes not at all), the obvious insert of the set from the PILOT of FTM at the start of the show, as well as precorded shots of Ron and contestant in silouhette at the end.

If Buxton did nothing but those two things in his life, he'd be a hero. I loved the Odd Couple/Password mashup, and don't get me started on Batfink.
However, he also rode herd over not ONE, but TWO of the more informative kids' shows of the 60's/70's... "Discovery '67", which aired on ABC, and "Hot Dog", for NBC. For the latter, Buxton drew on his connection/friendship with Woody Allen, who was one of the show's hosts. (Buxton was one of those involved with Allen's redubbed spy spoof, "What's Up Tiger Lily". Len "Karate" Maxwell was also on that project too.) The other hosts were Arte Johnson and JoAnne Worley, who were on the network elsewhere at the time. Buxton was in partnership with Lee Mendelson, who was the producer of the "Peanuts" specials, for "Hot Dog".

I absolutely loved "Discovery" ... which I think ran from '63 to '67. Still hear the theme music in my head. Anybody got it?
-
Jim McKrell belongs on this list. "Celebrity Sweepstakes" was a fairly successful show for its time, and yet after that, nothing in the way of significant hosting. One longer lasting legacy of his is a hilarious bit part in the pilot episode of "Moonlighting" as Cybill Shepherd's dinner date that Bruce Willis gets her away from.

Was there anything Buxton didn't do? He also wrote/directed a number of 70s sitcoms, made countless TV/movie guest appearances, and was a 2-time guest on the Carson-era Tonight Show back in 72...quite a resume!
Chuck Donegan (The Impressed "Chuckie Baby")

Good choice, only in that case it's less a matter of wishing more of his stuff had survived than it is wishing there had been more stuff.
It's not as though he didn't have chances. He appears to have been a 70s and 80s go-to guy for pilots, and in every one I've seen, he always comes across like he's been doing the show for years.

Oh and one more thing for Buxton - he wrote a very good show-by-show history of old-time radio, "The Big Broadcast."

No mention of Betty White?
What was Bill Leyden's problem with Call My Bluff?
Had tragedy not intervened I think Peter Tomarken at least deserved an audition for TPIR.
The hosting of Jan Murray.
Imagine the puzzlement of Mr. & Mrs. Kent Clementson of Palo Alto, California when, circa 1960, the phrase "I'll tell ya dat right now", spoken with a distinct Bronx accent, crept into their five-year-old son's vocabulary. Around the same time, this precocious five year old, an ardent fan of the daytime television program "Charge Account", took to drawing 16-square grids on every available piece of scrap paper in the house. To the relief of his parents, the young fellow never asked his mother for a glass of Mogen David.
Today I look at goons like Richard Karn and Drew Carey. They make Jan Murray look like John Barrymore.

Bill Owen was a staff announcer at ABC for a long time. For a while, I believe he did "World News Tonight" and also filled in for Howard Cosell on radio--until this guy WABC just hired from Philadelphia to replace Cousin Brucie wanted a shot at filling in for [DAAANNN INGRAM!] the Coach [DI]. Guy was named George Michael.
Virginia Gibson is still alive at 80. IMDB's last shown credit was a documentary on the making of the film "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers," which she was in.
