It'll be back by February. Just wait.

I really enjoyed the show when it started a few Christmases ago, but the obsessive need to get a millionaire really ruined the show for me. More than the pacing or the gimmicks ever did.

My eyes are still dry.

It'll go, only to return after what NBC replaces it with turns out to be something much crappier making primetime Deal seem like a gift from heaven.

I think this certainly fits the requirements for "something much crappier" -- and worse yet, Howie's hosting it.
I recently saw the first promo for "Howie, Do It" which is little more than Mr. Mandel taking the premise of his frequent Tonight Show "bits" and expanding it to an hour-long series. Howie goes undercover in disguise and performs disgusting things a la Candid Camera, eventually revealing himself to (hopefully) laughing victims.
Will it work -- I doubt it. Will it last -- I hope not, but that depends on how desperate NBC is to get viewers.

And to think the worst I could come up with was only Cop Rock. :-(

Hello Larry anyone?
Get a load of the game show references: Match Game '80 regular McLean Stevenson and Monty Hall's daughter Joanna Gleason. And Meadowlark Lemon, always welcome.

Based on several articles highlighted on here over the past few days, that's how we're feeling about primetime games in general. Until a fresh idea comes out of nowhere that excites everyone -- à la Millionaire in 1999 -- the genre is ground to a halt again. All "new" shows are little more than old themes warmed up and presented with some expensive, eye-candy set and post-modern music.

I haven't watched more than about 10 minutes of Deal this season. That counts the Youtube postings.

The Worst!!!
The Misadventures of Sheriff Lobo
That one lasted a while...wasn't too bad!
Good Morning, Miami
I only liked that show for the female lead, plus because of working at a Radio & TV station, I kind of have a fondness for shows about media...Except for Sports Night!
Harper Valley
Finally I found out that Harper Valley was in Southern Ohio.
We Got it Made
But Teri Copley was HOT... Ditzy, but HOT!!!
The Magnificent Marble Machine
Blank Check
BLASPHEMY...Okay, maybe Blank Check!!!
Big John, Little John
Not to be confused with Cleveland's Big Chuck & Little John.
Tommy Lee Goes to College in ANYTHING
Fixed that for You..
Hello, Larry
Wasn't that bad. Again, another show about Radio.
The Girl With Something Extra
Keep the 60's shows out of this!!! :)
You forgot "The Tortellis" -- worst....spinoff...EVAR!!!

I didn't say that I HATED Sports Night, the show just never clicked with me. And let me say that it's nowhere even close to the list of NBC klunkers listed above.
Also add to the list of media-centered shows that didn't fit well with me (not saying that it's a bad show..) -- "Martin".

What a coincidence! The new TV Guide arrived in my mailbox today featuring the countdown of the 5 best and 5 worst spin-offs of alltime.
This piece of misguided monkey business hit the list of the worst at #3. Quoting now: "served one purpose in life, and that was to answer the question, 'How bad does a show have to be to make a trucker and his chimp sidekick seem like Shakespeare?'"
And while we're on the subject of "Cop Rock" in the Department of Some People Never Learn From Others' Mistakes, does anyone else remember the "now you see it, now you don't" Hugh Jackman series that tried the same thing last season?
Oh, btw, Tim, if the Browns are making Charlie Sheen's Indians look like the '07 Red Sox, where does that put my woeful Lions and Tigers?

Yes indeedy. The problem with Laughlin from the beginning was that the American producers (and CBS) went to great lengths to play down the musical aspects, as if THEY were convinced from the start it was a terrible idea. The only way to pull off something like that is to embrace it completely and let the audience get caught up in your vision. I'm actually of the mind that part of the failure of Cop Rock was not that people rejected the idea but that the drama part brought nothing new to the table. It was just watered-down Hill Street Blues.
/Would LOVE to see a Cop Rock DVD set with features.
//Find myself watching the creative (if tacked-on) final number (http://\"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZoHEmMlruEQ\") a lot.

The Magnificent Marble Machine
Tilt!
I still have some fondness for this old clunker from 1975. Maybe being a pinball fanatic back in the day made me like the end game before the machine started misbehaving and only the bumpers scored points.

It was actually reprogrammed - the bumpers were the only thing that counted on the machine and they scored 500 points. Or $500 if in the Gold Money Ball round. I remember someone once pretty much trapped the ball near one of the upper bumpers with the upper flipper and really exploited that to win over $10,000 in one money round.

I read not long ago that the machine didn't function well and that's why they reprogrammed it. Judges would watch each round on tape to make sure everything registered.
But who could forget Leslie Uggams and that Gold Money Ball! (Just kidding.)

And meanwhile, my TVG Interactive/DVR (joined by NBC's PR web site) now tells me that there will be a two-hour "DOND" Christmas show on the 25th, along with two episodes back-to-back on Dec. 29 and a New Year's Day show (since NBC hasn't had the Orange Bowl in years).

Primtime Deal is nice in the fact that you often see offers above the $250,000 mark (hence the $1M top prize), whereas on the syndicated version, you rarely see offers above $100,000. That's one reason why I want the primetime version to stick around.
But I would like to see it go for the reason that every episode has in-game spoilers, which everyone knows makes the show less entertaining to watch. Is that really necessary for a game show? Absolutely not! But we've covered that before.
