LOS ANGELES (AP) - John O'Hurley, who played pompous clothing catalog king J. Peterman on the "Seinfeld" TV series, is getting married.

O'Hurley will wed Lisa Mesloh, an executive with The Golf Channel, publicist Liza Anderson said Monday.

The couple, both avid golf players, got engaged during a recent visit to the world famous Pebble Beach golf course, Anderson said.

O'Hurley hid the engagement ring in the cup of the 7th hole. When Mesloh approached the pin, she found the ring box in the hole, but was too focused on the competition to realize what was happening.

When O'Hurley got down on one knee and proposed, a teary Mesloh finally understood what was going on and said, "Yes."

The wedding likely will take place next year.

O'Hurley currently appears on UPN's "The Mullets."

I sure hope Johno has saved money, because "The Mullets" sure ain't paying for that ring.

Sure it is.  He's just gonna have to get a second job.

Isn't he making enough from Seinfeld royalties?

BTW, The Mullets just went on hiatus.  Off-topic thought: surprisingly, four prime time shows are now on hiatus (joining Boomtown, Coupling, and 8 Simple Rules, although that of the latter is not ratings-related), but there have been exactly zero cancellations so far.  At this point each of the last two seasons, at least one new series has bitten the dust.

"Hiatus" can mean a lot of different things.  It's unlikely, for example, that Boomtown will return, so it's as good as cancelled.  Coupling was just pre-empted last week. It's back tomorrow night so that's not even a hiatus at all.  8 Simple Rules is dealing with a unique situation and is definitely scheduled to return.

It wouldn't surprise me if The Mullets is off for good.  Also, this year's FOX series that never made it to air is The Ortegas, which has been pulled without airing a single episode despite being promoted as a fall series.

As for Seinfeld royalties, keep in mind that O'Hurley only gets paid for episodes he was in, and he was only in twenty or so.  Yes, it's a nice chunk of change but we're not talking Jamie Farr money or anything.

Based on what I've heard, the only thing The Ortegas is showing Fox is why NBC passed on it.  Its status, AFAIK, is it's been pushed back to midseason, but with Bernie Mac now in its slot, 24 and The OC returning next week, and American Idol 3 waiting in the wings, it's possible it may go the way of The Grubbs.  Its only hope is if Arrested Development disappoints.  (If Fox gives up on Wanda at Large or Luis this soon, it'll take a lot of flak from the NAACP.)

As for Coupling, what's a Thursday night NBC schedule without six people sharing an apartment and swapping sex jokes?  My answer: a big improvement! [rim shot]

So that's why we haven't seen Jamie (or Gary Burghoff, for that matter) since that one Memorial Day marathon on GSN.

COUPLING may be back for this Thursday, but it is being yanked for at least the first night of the November sweeps (10/30/03).  That's not a good sign.

From what I read, it will air tomorrow, but not again for four weeks.

The article didn't say anything about how much the ring cost, now, did it?  :-)
