This coming April 7th will see the release of Tom Bergeron's autobiography; entitled, I'm Hosting As Fast As I Can!
Never mind Bergeron, I'm STILL waiting for Johnny Gilbert to put HIS memoirs to paper!!!!!
Cordially,
Tammy
P.S. I got the news on Tom's book from Game Show News Net; so you can jump down THEIR throats for once.

Bergeron is an enigma. Hosting another game show is beneath him. Hosting AFV and DWTS is not.

If it is fact, then I apologize for any and all of the above.

But I also realize that he has bills to pay, and when a gig shows up, he jumps on it. It just so happens that he's REALLY REALLY GOOD at whatever he does.

What on EARTH does this mean? What did we ever do to you, Tammy?

Well, he did fill in on WWtBaM a coupla seasons ago, so while he may not wanna be known as a GS host, he must have something of an appreciation for the genre.
Incidentally, any word of a book-signing tour? NY's not too far from Bergeron's home base, y'know.

You know, if "Million Dollar Password" hadn't gone down the tubes, Bergeron would be a great host of a daily version.

Only if they insist that Johnny Gilbert's memoirs should be published.

Bumping this up, I did buy Tom's book. I haven't read it thoroughly yet, but there is a short chapter about Tom being approached by Fremantle for that "Price" show. Ah, what might have been...

I am reading it as well - it's a good read - and, yes, it's an interesting story about the Price offer....
-
Should I buy the book or can you share why he didn't take the gig?

Comes down to the same reason why he doesn't take a lot of gigs - because he's a BIG family man, and doesn't like to leave his home in CT for extended periods. He flies out every week just for DwtS, and fits AFHV in between...the rest of the time, he's an east coast guy - something TPIR isn't.
There are a few stories from Hollywood Squares as well...
Read it, mainly because it's a good read - from an extrodinarily nice guy whom I've had the pleasure of knowing for a few years now.

Cool, thanks Matt! That's a pretty good reason.

(Four words, folks: read by the author. And I bet it's on Kindle too if you have an iPhone (or, hell, a Kindle) and wanna save a few bucks.)

Thanks for the heads up that it's on iTunes... I've got a long road trip coming up and we now have a winner for the drive home.

(a small whoosh, "zeke" comes from Drew's references to "Ezekiel Barker.")

I've been poking around the net to try and find a decent download - I'm looking at both iPod and mp3 format - would anyone be able to suggest a good site? I found audible.com but that's about it for now.
Thanks,
Ryan.

I did a little bit of poking around for you, and I can tell you that Borders (http://\"http://audiobooks.borders.com\") is a good site where you can get iPod compatible downloads, since those devices support mp3 formats. I hope it helps.
I have an actual copy of the book, and while I am only about 3 or 4 chapters in, I think it's an excellent read and comes with life lessons I can apply to my personal situations. Highly recommended!

This past Sunday, 4/26 on AFV, Tom gave copies of his book to two volunteers he picked from the audience to guess the results of clips. File this one under shameless promotion, the latest entry.
File this one under shameless promotion
Or just a quick plug for a book that otherwise would likely get no on-air ads?
Either way, the book is worth it, free or paid for. After completing the 6 hour-plus audiobook, I still recommend that over a paper book any day of the week. Tom's stories have so much more life and vibrance when it's actually him vocalizing them. The "back spasms" story would certainly not come across the same without hearing Tom actually do them. Highly recommended, worth your $17.95 on Audible.

^ Oh, I just might go to the library and read about the Hollywood Squares tidbits and such. So he WAS offered the TPIR gig. Hell, if Mario Lopez was offered it, not offering Tom a shot would be a disgrace, if anything.

I'd like to agree with the sentiment expressed by Chad and others about the audio book. It kept me extremely entertained during a long drive this past weekend to Ohio. Tom has a great voice telling his stories. It's not like I will give up traditional books, but something like this I believe works so much better as an audio book.
Ryan.
