Title: Syndie Shows
Post by: golden-road on March 02, 2009, 04:10:59 AM
With all the talk about what aired when on the "Syndie Ratings" page, I was wondering how many stations bounced around a certain show?

I'll give you an example, the current version of Feud, airing in Phoenix, Arizona:
9/20/99 - 9/15/00: KASW, 11AM
9/18/00 - 9/14/01: KPNX, 2-3PM
9/17/01 - 9/05: KASW, 1-2PM
9/05 - 9/7/07: KPHO, 3-4PM
9/10/07-: KTVK, 1-2PM

Im my area, FF started on WCAU(NBC 10) in 1999.  After a couple years, it moved over to WTXF(Now Fox 29).  Then for some odd reason, WKBS(Channel 48) apparentky gpt it for a spell in 2002 before it disbanded to EWTN I think,  Then it went back to Fox 29 fpt a couple more years.  Then it went to MyPHL-17 for a bit before settling in at KYW(CBS 3) where it's been now since 2007.

Not so much the stations, but some shows in Norfolk/Newport News have seen plenty of schedule changes.

Feud 99 started off on WTKR at 10:30am.
In fall-2000, it moved to WVBT at 12 noon, and that station bounced it around a few times, to 6 pm, then 6 am, then 2:30 am.
In spring-2003, WTVZ picked up the show, and aired it in an 11 am double run, then a 5 pm double run, then back to 11 am when Ryan Seacrest's short-lived talk show debuted. Since fall-2004, it's been shuffled between 11 am and 2 pm (it's since aired from 1-2 since 2006, but WTVZ has at least kept it in daytime hours.

Between 2000 and 2004, WTKR constantly switched Hollywood Squares' time slot. It would air at 4 pm, then 4:30, then back to 4, then 4:30 again.

/Wheel has kept its 7:00 time slot on WVEC since 1984.
//The first season, it aired at 7:30, following Love Connection

WEWS has that beat; Wheel's been at 7 PM since day 1 in 1983.

On the flipside, any other "records" for timeslot longetivity?

Quite possibly the show that follows America's Game on WEWS Newschannel 5.....Jeopardy!, which has held the 7:30pm spot since 1984. Taking the question from Gus a step further, I wonder how many stations other than WEWS have held WOF and J! in tandem in the same hour in the same order since 1984.

Aaron Sica might be able to answer this better, but I think that WHP (Harrisburg, PA) might be able to claim this title, with WoF and J! in that order in the 7p hour.

I know that WPVI cannot, because I remember that they aired J! in early fringe when it debuted.

Well, if not for Kennedy PiR, WHP might have been able to hold that title. WoF has been on at 7pm since 1984. Jeopardy has been on at 7:30 since 1984 as well, except for the 85-86 season when it was demoted to 5:30 to make room for Kennedy PiR. Once that was cancelled, J! moved back into the 7:30pm slot, where it's been ever since.

On the Wheel/J! front, but in another direction...

As far as I know Wheel's aired at the same time since it came to NYC. Jeopardy!, I wanna say, has bounced around a bunch but has aired at 7 PM since 1987.

Feud started out here at noon on WWOR, then moved to 4, then I think back to noon, then to 2 on WNYW, then to 3 on WWOR, then the same slot on WNYW, then back to WWOR at 3 where it is now.

WKBW Buffalo has had Wheel of Fortune at 7 since Aug 1983.  They aired the first season of Jeopardy at 5:30 in '84, but moved it to 7:30 the next year, where it's been ever since.

Kinda hard to believe that for anyone under 26 years old in C-Town, Wheel has always been on Channel 5 at 7PM.

And if memory serves me right, the show that Wheel replaced in that very time slot on WEWS was The Joker's Wild while the show that Jeopardy replaced one year later at 7:30 was Tic Tac Dough!

On WLS Chicago, "Wheel" at 6:28 p.m. since January 1984, "J!" at 3:30 p.m. since September 1984.

Your memory has served you wrong, dear Tim. WOF replaced The New You Asked For It at seven while J! replaced TJW at the 7:30 half hour. TTD had moved to then-NBC O&O WKYC-TV Channel 3 by this time.

And boy did WLS pimp the heck out of it. I recall as a kid seeing ads in TV Guide regarding not just Jeopardy, but also a picture of the champion THAT WEEK. Fun times.

Sticking to that particular age, I remember the syndie version of Combs Feud airing against Wheel at 6:30 on WMAQ Channel 5, then moved to WGBO Channel 66 at 9:30 pm sometime after 1990, where it stayed until 1995; WGBO stuck with it even during Dawson's return year.

When I was out in Jersey visiting last September, Feud was on 29 at 4:30am, right after TP:  America Plays.  So you left out a move.  As for Channel 48, don't you mean WGTW?  WKBS has been gone for 25 and a half years. :-)

Now wait just a minute here.  It seems to me that Syndie Feud had a longer run on WMAQ than two years.  And even if it didn't, I'm almost certifiably dang sure that it didn't make its way over to "Super 66" out of Joliet for any period of time.  I was, at that age, a fervent viewer of Benny Hill at 9.

And Dawson '94 Feud aired at 9pm on WPWR, Power 50.  That much I know.  I remember my disappointment at the 4-player setup and the chyroned board, and my parents' disappointment at Dawson's deterioration of skills.

Corrected I stand. How I blew that one is well beyond my reasoning.

You are right. Combs' Feud was on WPWR after WMAQ surrendered its holding of the show. It ran there for the duration of the run, right up until the Second Age of Dawson.

I don't think the WMAQ airings went only two years, as well...

The syndicated Combs Feud was on WMAQ its first two years and for its second year it was bumped to overnights with Hard Copy aring at 6:30 starting in fall 1989. Then WGBO aired it in 90-91 with WPWR picking it up in fall 1991 at 10:00 pm for a few years and airing the 94-95 Dawson return year.

If this thread's heading over to Combs Syndie Feud Way....

The Harrisburg market had WHTM-27 airing "Feud" at 7:30pm weeknights from *paging Mitch Groff* until September 1994. The last season with Dawson, I believe, aired on WLYH-15 but I could be wrong *Mitch!!!*.

Scranton/WB didn't pick it up until fall 1991, when WYOU-22 aired it at 5pm (after Oprah)..Whether it aired until 1993 or 1994, I don't remember, but starting in Sept 1994, Davidson PiR aired at 5pm..

I started this with listing the current version of Feud in Phoenix, but I also attempted to list the previous versions as well. I'm hoping someone living in Phoenix can help me out:

Dawson Version:
KTVK, 6:30PM from start to end.

Combs Version (Some Times Unknown):
9/18/88-1989; 1990-1992: KTSP
1989-1990: KPNX, 6:30PM
1992-1993: KPHO: 3AM
1993-1995: KUTP: 1-2 PM, later 5AM

And Here's Wheel:
9/19/83-1/6/95: KTSP/KSAZ, 6:30PM
1/9/95-9/03: KTVK: 7:30PM
9/03-: KNXV, 6:30PM

Hope some one can fill in the Feud blanks.

I recalled Syndie Feud being on WPWR in the 90's until the end of Dawson's return. I wasn't aware of the first two years however

Adding to the Syndie Feud...
when Anderson took over in 1999 (correct me if I'm wrong: were re-runs of Match Game '98 or first-runs of TTTT paired with it?), it was on WPWR/My50 until 2001.

From 2001 until 2008, it aired on WCIU (and established a 2 hour game show block with Card Sharks and TTTT), then came back to My50.

Another game show set that moved around a few times in Chicago was Tic Tac Dough and Jokers Wild. Joker was on WFLD from 1978-81 and 1983-84 and WPWR then on 60 for part of early 1983 and 1984-85 and Tic Tac Dough went the same route although starting a year later, also the two shows were on weekday mornings on WGBO for like two months for the last season in early 1986.

The Buffalo stations moved them around a fair bit too...syndie reruns were seen on WIVB for a few weeks in summer '77, as were new ones that fall (actually beginning in late August).  The second year was seen on WKBW, but didn't start until January '79 - but right from the first episode of the second season (Barry-Enright shows always did that).  By fall '79, WGRZ had picked up the weekly Joker Joker Joker; so it hit all three of the major network affiliates within a two-year span.  Tic Tac Dough was on the same station (WKBW) throughout it's run.

As far as I can remember, Joker's Wild aired on the same Rochester station (WHEC) for its whole run.
