My sister and I have been going crazy for years trying to figure this out. I've searched all over the internet, found nothing. Yahoo answers was garbage too.
Here's what I know.
- The show was hosted by Ed McMahon
- The show was airing in the 80s
- Contestants would have to press big square buttons on what resembled a big telephone keypad
- For the bonus round, there was a sound proof booth involved
It's NOT Who Do You Trust.
It's NOT Star Search.
I've looked everywhere for the name of this show, searched Ed McMahon's career, and found nothing. I'm SURE it was Ed that hosted.
Can anyone help?!?

What you're probably thinking about is something called "The $1,000,000 Chance of a Lifetime". You have most everything right, except for the host being Jim Lange, not Ed McMahon. I can really see how you might have mixed them up at a young age, though.
This ring any bells? (http://\"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bSRsOijpr5Q\")

You could be thinking along the lines of $1,000,000 Chance of a Lifetime hosted by Jim Lange. People punched square buttons on a keyboard... and the endgame did involve a sound-proof booth.
Hope that helps you!

I'm sorry Matt, but you can't be a contestant of your own game (Matt Ottinger's Masters of the Obvious). ;)

I've always wanted a game show (nowadays) where they'd give you as little information as possible for you to try and solve a puzzle/answer a question for the biggest amount of money and then lower it as you got more.
So for this one, he could have said, Ed McMahon, buzzers and bonus round and we all would have been stumped! (Seeing as Whodunit, IIRC never had buzz-in questions)
/style points would have been gained for a response of "Chocolate Babies."

Why not? Tom Kennedy played P+. Didn't DC try his hand at Pyramid? I say put Matt in the chair, start the clock, and let's *see* how obvious things are!
