Title: Wordplay Question
Post by: JonSea31 on April 12, 2012, 11:32:58 AM
Does anybody know what font was used in the logo for the short-lived 1987 game show Wordplay?

If any font exists on the Internet, where can I download a free version of it?

Hey JonSea31, how's it going? Anywhoo, I think it's a custom font/logo . So there's probably no download for it. If you know photoshop then you could make this your self. that's what I did for some logos I was working on a while ago.

So it's not the same font that was used for the first VH-1 logo?

If you're looking to create an approximation of the font, you can try to upload a good screencap of the logo to WhatTheFont? (http://"http://www.myfonts.com/WhatTheFont/") and it will try to figure out an approximation to a known digital font.

As far as typography goes, the mid-80s (when Wordplay aired) was pretty much the B.A. (Before Adobe) era, so the designers may have adapted a standard Chartpak or Letraset typeface or even hand-drawn the characters from scratch.

Even today, pro logo designers will take a standard font, make it into outlines using something like Adobe Illustrator, and then tweak the characters to create a custom logo.
