Which quirky hobbies do our beloved game show hosts (and hostesses) do when they're not doing their day jobs?
For example, Summer Bartholomew also plays tennis.
Vanna White is also a singer and has performed in a few Broadway stage musicals.

Wow, that's...quirky?
Vanna White is also a singer and has performed in a few Broadway stage musicals.
I would be very curious about where you got that information. Not the "singer" part, everybody thinks they're a singer. I mean the "performed in a few Broadway stage musicals" part. We're pretty picky here about being factually accurate.
Besides, the correct "quirky" answer was that Vanna crochets.
-
Art James collected toasters.
-
Jack Narz was a dope-ass beatboxer.
-
And for Summer, I would've gone with motorcycles.
-
Pat Sajak and Alex Trebek like to go to strip clubs after tapings.
-
I seem to remember it being mentioned on an ep. of MG that Gene Rayburn dabbled in needlepoint.
-
Clifton ("Kip") Fadiman had an extensive collection of erotic teacups.
-
I gotta ask...can we try to keep this to actual quirks? I know that Mario is a little obsessed with things like this but I think we're a little better than that.

Hey, speak for yourself. I not only hooked a big one on my first expedition, but I got to bring out the Let Me Google That For You joke. I figure that we get to mildly rib the FNG until he wises up or moves to greener pastures.

Understood, but I think that there's going to be more opportunities for the ribbing at the rate he apparently wants to go if his other postings are any indication. I actually am legitimately curious to see what the real quirks are.
But that's just me, carry on if you should.

The ones I knew were Gene Rayburn took up needlepoint to pass the time on his cross country trips, and Alex Trebek enjoys tending to his garden and tweaking his pickup. See, they are just like you and me!

I knew that much. I'm interested to see if anyone comes up with something that might not have instantly been common knowledge among the fandom.
Even if it's from a guy whose introduction reads like a Craigslist posting.

I thought I remembered reading in the original Jeopardy! book that Trebek collects hats. IIRC, so did Richard Dawson.

Yep, that's in the 1990 Jeopardy! book. Didn't Wink Martindale do so too?
-
William Shatner has been known to attend Star Trek conventions.
-
Hosting Starcade got Geoff Edwards interested in video games. Certainly not the quirkiest of hobbies, but I don't know many people that started gaming in their 50's.
-
I hear Richard Dawson enjoyed bowling with his buddies...
(He did indeed bowl a few times on Celebrity Bowling...whether he actually enjoyed it, and whether his teammates were his actual friends is anybody's guess...)
-
Maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't consider Shatner attending a Star Trek convention quirky, considering it's pretty much what made him famous.

Having seen her "act" in Goddess of Love and the forgettable Gypsy Angels (where, by coincidence, she plays someone who lost the love of her life to a plane crash) I doubt she's ever done anything on Broadway. I'm not criticizing Vanna's talents at all, but she is best at being herself.
If we really want to STRETCH, Johnny Carson, one time game show host and occasional panelist on TTTT and IGAS, played tennis and also played the drums. One thing that WASN'T his thing... modeling. According to a new book on Johnny Carson coming out soon, Johnny Carson once had his own line of clothing. What he didn't think about was that since it was HIS line, he would have to model the clothes. During a photo session, Johnny grew steadily impatient, realizing that he absolutely HATED posing, much less being TOLD how to pose, and he snapped and stormed out of the studio. He put an end to the clothing line immediately after that.
-
Johnny Carson also was an amateur magician and was into archery. (Joke coming) He also collected wives. (Joke end)

Minor nitpick fixed.
Should we change this thread title to just hobbies? What really makes a quirky hobby?

What really makes a quirky hobby?
Vaccuums.

I think Pat Finn collects those, because, y'know, he sucks.
-
What really makes a quirky hobby?
Rooting out communism.
-
Bill Cullen liked race cars and was a pilot. I believe he even tried to start up his own commuter airline in the early 1950s.
-
Chuck Woolery likes posting conservative rants on youtube
-
According to a vintage TV Guide feature article, Jan Murray collected matchbooks.

What really makes a quirky hobby?
Quarks.
