What exactly are they ripping off?

Without knowing Thing One about the show, I\'d guess either Wife Swap or Trading Spouses, you pick.

Without knowing anything at all, the title would sort of suggest that.  However, this is more along the lines of the pawn shop shows and other shows centered around family-owned businesses.  Is there another show specifically like this one?  Possibly not.  Is this the sort of thing that probably got pitched to seven or eight higher profile networks before working its way down to GSN?  All signs point to yes.

And that\'s what I get for taking LGY\'s editorializing as gospel. Shame on me.

I think it\'s Pawn Stars or PBS\'s \"Antiques Roadshow\" or something like that

(the guy on GSN\'s Family Trade is trading old cars parts, engines, etc.)

Those two shows feature completely different formats.  Read this and then read this.  Then explain to me what the two have in common.

Just a thought that crossed my mind while skimming the numbers: Neither Deal or No Deal (A respectably rated newer show) nor 80s Pyramid (typically the highest rated older series) were able to outperform Dawson\'s FF in the 8:00am time slot, despite being part of well-announced-in-advance marathons on the channel. In fact, both shows were also outperformed in the 8:30a, 9:00a, and 9:30a by those slots\' respective older series (MG, CS, PYL).

To me, this raises a mildly interesting question regarding GSN\'s viewership: Aside from the demonstrable success of Steve Harvey\'s run of Feud, and the opposite with regards to Drew\'s Improv show, are the ratings in any given timeslot more indicative of the ratings strength/lack thereof of the shows themselves....or merely indicative that \"At [time x], [y] number of people will be watching GSN, on average\"  Or perhaps somewhere in between?

Does that take into account time-shifting? The number of shows I have a pass for is dwindling by the week, and if I\'m not grabbing Super Password or one of the 80s Pyramids, I\'m not bothering with GSN much at all.

Maybe GSN would be better off going with informercials til 10am?
