Title: Today show "2003 death roll" 12/31
Post by: zachhoran on December 31, 2003, 08:25:35 AM
For those people that care about such things, Lynne Thigpen was noted in the annual New Year's Eve Today Show "death roll", but Rod Roddy wasn't.

Rod Roddy was featured on the CBS Sunday Morning death roll (although, the whole death roll segment lasted around 15 minutes)

CBS News Sunday Morning is a consistent class act....and I don't just mention this because they included Rod in their necrology. A "segment" is truly a segment on that program. The words of praise heaped upon Charles Kuralt and Charles Osgood over the years are well-deserved.

The New Years Eve edition of Entertainment Tonight will do a death roll that includes some quick footage of Rod at TPIR.  Hmmm, Rod at TPIR - RIP.

Rod is also featured on Bravo's Entertainers of the Year death roll for about 3 seconds. Shows him in standard flashy jacket, outside somewhere (looked like the Today show, can't really remember).

Ya know, this is a legit post, but I bet the sickos over in kiddie land(atgs) are just looking for names on this thread to start a "death pool " or "what game show will ___'s corpse host".

I remember those posts myself. One word: GROSS! G-R-O-S-S! (All 5 letters light up in orange)

Chuck: YES!

Now, Back On Topic: I'm sure most people forgot about Lynne Thigpen after the Carmen Sandiego game shows ended.

But they never forgot about Buddy Hackett and John Ritter, did they?

OK.

But, still, before "The District," people forgot about her after the Carmen Sandiego game shows ended, right?

I don't know about that. Didn't she have a regular or semi-regular role on All My Children?

Why should we care about soap operas?  :-p

Other than providing a cheap source of Z-list celebs for game shows, of course....

On NPR's All Thing Considered tonight they did their all list of those who are no longer with us, Lynn Thigpin was on the list and they listed Where In The World as what she was known for.  They also mentioned Rod and had a clip of him saying "come on down."

You may have gone and opened an interesting direction in this thread with that question. Many good game players have come from the daytime and nighttime soaps. Among them the recently passed Terry Lester along with Melody Thomas Scott, Barry Jenner and Constance McCashin.

Orange? Methinks you should adjust the hue knob on your TV.

Jed Allan was passable on the Temptation pilot in 1980, and he did keep Celebrity Bowling running for a couple of years. John Gabriel, former Ryan's Hope co-star, was considered to replace Pat on Daytime WOF at one point, word is he was no better than Rolf.

Also RH-related: Earle Hindman, AKA WIlson on Home Improvement, died this week. He was a co-star on Ryan's Hope for most of its run. I don't think this was the case, but did he appear on any ABC celeb game shows, most likely a soap star week of Feud?

One of my local stations did one on Monday that didn't include Bobby Hatfield, one of the Righteous Brothers--and that station was based in the town where he died!

ObGameShows: "You've Lost that Lovin' Feelin'" and "Unchained Melody" might been used on Name That Tune.

He also did a week of The $50K Pyramid in early 1981, as well as a Soap Opry vs. the Grand Ole Opry week of FF in 1984.

Meh. I always thought it was more red than orange, but whatever. Dosn't really matter.

I suppose someone is going to suggest "burnt umber" next.  Can't we just say reddish-orange and call it good?
