Title: Treasure Hunt question
Post by: Adam Nedeff on January 03, 2004, 04:53:15 PM
How many shows did Treasure Hunt (81-82 version) do with a $20,000 jackpot before introducing the $1,000-a-day growth to $50,000 rule? And how much of the series has GSN aired? The reason I ask is because I got a VHS-to-DVD burner and I thought it might be fun to have the entire climb to the $50,000 win on one set of DVDs and I'm trying to figure out how feasable this is, giving you an idea of about how often I leave my house.

So are the cobwebs are collecting around the door hinges yet? Because that's a sign...

Anyhow, I wasn't aware it was ever a flat payout in the eighties run...but I'm sure that Zach knows. Also doesn't the EoTVGS say that it started at $50k?

Hows the late night radio career going? Hard to do a show if you don't leave the home...;-)

When the show started, it had the $1K/show added...after Diana won $23K on the 4th ep, it went to a flat $20K for the next few shows until Becky won it...then it went to the $20K plus $1K/show added.

I remember seeing Diana Arispi on Treasure Hunt!  When she won the $23,000, Geoff mentioned that she was from Houston, Texas!

Diana stayed on the show for a few days & ended up with $30,000 in cash & prizes.

Um....that's nice.

Why I'm involving myself in this, I'll never know, but I lived in San Francisco in 1984. Does that give me some kind of award?

Yes, you receive my personal Cetritificate of Acheivement for resisting the urge to recall some obscure contestant from San Francisco. Suitable for framing. :)

Why did the progressive jackpot stop progressing once it reached $50000?

Most likely a budgetary concern...and also possibly because "you could win up to $50,000" sounds to me a lot more exciting that "you could win a lot of money..."

Although TH didn't exactly run enough episodes that having the jackpot run unclaimed until the last show would have broken the bank.

Prolly the same reason why Greed went from a top payout of "$2M + $50K for each game the top prize isn't won" to a flat $2M...not like they needed it, though...LOL
