Title: Where did game show video/PC game material come from?
Post by: DoorNumberFour on June 17, 2014, 09:46:35 AM
I was able to grab a copy of Harry Eisenberg's early-90s book about Jeopardy, and in there, he mentions that the show struck a deal with home game makers that essentially said the show's writers would cook up extra material for use in the board/video games, in exchange for x amount of money.

Was this the case with the other game show video/PC game releases from the 80s/early 90s? GameTek was the biggest game show licensee of them all in those days, I think—I'm wondering if they grabbed content directly from the show's writers, or if they had people in-house who whipped all that stuff up.

I know the Hollywood Squares NES game culled questions from the real show. I have an episode where they ask two questions that were recycled for the NES game, right down to using the same zingers. (Pretty sure it was a FL episode.)

I've been able to match some of the material in the NES "Super Jeopardy!" game to early-season material found in the J! Archive.

NES "Classic Concentration"'s rebuses were likely custom-written, as the game uses a finite number of symbols over and over.

Wipeout's PC game material came directly from the show.
