Title: Weakest Link.........
Post by: HSquares2003 on January 09, 2004, 04:05:59 PM
How many total Anne Robinson Weakest Link shows exis? I mean, good grief, I have seen these like the past few weeks! And even the Sunday Night shows with the celebrities are wearing thin also. I am just about ready to give up the 4pm run altogether. Hopefully, they get the hint soon and put something in its place.

Have they recently shown the then-WWF one where, despite it not being wrestling (then again, so isn't WWE nowadays), Triple H still manages to put himself over everyone? ;-)

Wonder if negotiating with the BBC for UK shows is in the realm of Dismantle-level negotiation impossibility?

I would make the assumtion(based on seeing the WL site for the UK version) that they would have problems fitting it the one hour slot without major speed ups. I believe the show is 1:15 instead of an hour, thus probably a problem.

Haven't seen the WWF one, but they did regrind(for about the 50th time I would say) the Anne Robinson look alike show from 2002.

There are 80 Robinson "Links" and 317 Gray "Links". 397 total, and my feet still hurt!

The only problem with getting UK Link is that it would contain a lot of British trivia which most Americans arent aquainted with.

Thats true but BBC2 in the UK has shown almost all of the US Robinson editions instead of the regular Daytime editions, but they haven't been shown since this time last year. The only way it will be shown in the US is on BBC America but they don't tend to show gameshows.

The daytime episodes last for 45 Minutes which also include the odd contestant special like Family, Teachers, Students, Losers, Hairdressers etc... So far there have been over 500 Episodes come Christmas 2004 it will be nearing 600 and the most ever won is only around £4,000+. The average now is £2,500 per show out of the maximum of £10,000.

The Primetime episodes last for 50 Minutes but tend more to celebrities as originally there were 7 Champions Specials (49 Show winners from Series One) with some celebrity specials when the jackpot was at £20,000. Since the move to £50,000 there have been around 10 or so Normal episodes but tonnes of Celebrity Specials, there have been some rumours of ditching the Primetime shows since they average the same ratings as they do on the Daytime slot and getting too repitative.

 What?!

I'm sure there were UK-related questions on the US Link, one of which had to do with the Prime Minister of Britain, and that player missed that question!

Yes, but we're talking about trivia that would mean nothing or very little to a person in America. Like references to Eastender and Hollyoaks and all those nutty pop bands that spring up overnight.

Seems odd that a syndie show would produce 317 total eps, as opposed to 320 or 325 (for example).

And speaking of which, I wonder if PAX will ever start airing the 2nd season of Gray's version...didn't get to see too much of it since WCBS couldn't sacrifice a half-hr of news at 4:30 and buried it in the 2:07 AM slot.

Perhaps a result of those special shows made for individual markets, featuring radio personalities and the like?

From a reliable source (Well someone I know who works for a NBC affliate) has stated that PAX will re-show Gray's Season Two of Link sometime around the early summer, probably around June 2004 but its uncertain whether Season One will continue to be showed then.

And still you managed to come up with that comment. Yer a special one, you are.

(Hint: There is a BIG DIFFERENCE between "Who is England's Prime Minister" and "Who was the MVP on Leeds' F.A. Premier Cup-winning football club of 1912?*" when you are considering what questions might not click with a Stateside audience.)

* No, I have no clue who won the F.A. Premier Cup in 1912, whether Leeds has ever won one, if they announce Most Valuable Players in English football, or in fact if the Cup itself existed at that time.
