I saw it. Good grief, it's more hideous than that Jeopardy pilot set. All the colors give me scary memories of the disco era....

Oh great, now tomorrow I'm going to have Saturday Night Fever! [rimshot]

Shortening the name is fine, going all out with Reality shows and other stupid stuff is not.

Game Show Network's altering of its name to GSn is no different from, say, American Movie Classics becoming just aMC ["TV for Movie People"], or Arts & Entertainment Network becoming just A&E ["The Art of Entertainment"].

It just becomes a bunch of letters, with their original meanings being somewhat lost.

The name's fine. I just think the logo is ugly.

well its personally not as bad as i thought.  I am a huge fan of The Mole so i am happy.  I like the new logo.  I can give or take the rest, but i am a huge gamer so i am happy about the video game documentary.  overall its not as bad as i thought it was going to be.

As per the Yahoo! thing...
Quote
On Tuesday, March 16th, at 10 p.m., television's smartest reality show, THE MOLE, makes its way to GSN. The first two seasons of the exciting "whodunit" hit game series THE MOLE, as well as CELEBRITY MOLE HAWAII, will air weekly in the Tuesday 10 p.m. time slot. GSN will begin on March 16 with CELEBRITY MOLE HAWAII, which featured Kathy Griffin, Corbin Bernsen, Stephen Baldwin, Michael Boatman, Kim Coles, Frederique Van Der Wal, Erik von Detten and host Ahmad Rashad. The first two "civilian" seasons of THE MOLE were hosted by CNN newsman Anderson Cooper and the series is produced by Stone Stanley Entertainment

Well, I know one time slot that will occupy me. :-D

Yes, we all know the irritating one won Celebrity Mole: Hawaii (then again, weren't they all irritating?), but I never saw any of it the first time around.  But can blackjack on TV catch on without trivia questions?

Ya know...I don't spend that much time watching GSN anyhow...in fact their aquisition of The Mole will increase my viewing. So for me the change is positive. Their current schedule is getting real stale, real fast, anyhow. I'm looking forward to it - and this Kenny vs. Spenny or whatever it is could be cool - I'll just wait and see.

Still, it's not BAD, by any description.

Poker seems to have done so. Those people with skill in counting cards can play along with non-Gambit blackjack. However, a poker-Concentration(card game) hybrid failed twice on television, as Pay Cards in the late 60s and the legendary SUper Pay Cards in 1981 crashed and burned.

Speaking of Blackjack WITH trivia questions, I think that's what TNN's (now Spike TV) Top Card had.

The folks behind the Reality Channel must be kicking themselves now that The Mole is off the table.  Of ocurse, this channel will never get off the ground, because CBS has far too many cable propertis of its own to sell off any of their series.

As for the new GSN: I'll watch what I like and won't watch what I don't. The blackjack show could be good, the Kenny v. Whatever think will probably at least get a look from me, and Fake-a-Date? Fugeddaboudit.

Might as well get this out of the way now...

Worst. Network. Ever.

Seriously, I don't see anything appealing to me ... then again, I have only two years left (as of next month) in that 18-49 male demographic.

And the logo? Well, it looks like an offshoot of style.

I agree on the logo...it could use some different colors.  The actual design (minus the colors) looks okay to me, though.

As much as I like Mole, I probably won't watch it.  I already know the results of Celebrity Mole Hawaii and Mole 2.  I never saw the original Mole series, but since they spoiled the winner of Mole 1 on Mole 2, it won't be much fun to watch it either.

My semi-educated guess is that they're going to end up using a variety of colors once the new logo actually hits the air.

I would like to point out that it's very reminiscent of an old Lifetime logo.

And the really sad thing is, the marketing company that "designed" this logo and wrote the marketing happy-talk to go with it, probably earned more money than most of us would see in several years of working.

Edit: Maybe I need to adjust my sarcasm detector a little bit too... :-\

Yeah, that much is obvious, because if you did know anything about it, you'd know that , aside from a couple format changes, Top Card was at utter ripoff of Gambit (which I am well aware enjoyed a fair amount of success, Nicholas)...

I guess we should have seen this one coming as the new "Game Across America" has an alternate version of the new logo on their microphones. Then again, I've not watched GAA yet, so I'm not kicking myself for not noticing until now.

I haven't seen this mentioned yet (I didn't see it on the GSN name change PR), but it looks like Melena Scantlin from "Average Joe" is going to be the host of the "World Series of Blackjack".

This is according to Ellen Gray (http://\"http://www.pnionline.com/dnblog/ellengray/archives/000268.html#000268\") of the Philadelphia Daily News whose comments on the shift in focus would seem right at home in this forum.

Yuck! Its more becoming like Challenge, too many similarities:

1) The Mole, Mole 2, Celebrity Mole
Challenge pulled the same stunt way back in the Summer by grabbing all three series and showing them every weeknight across July/August however they have only re-showed Series 1 and Celebrity Mole 1 since then and looks like its won't be reshown due to the fact that only 60,000 viewers saw the series.

2) The World Series Of Blackjack
Moving into Casino Games has also been done with Challenge recently showing World Poker Tour and UK Celebrity Poker also introducing Casino Casion which faces 4 players playing rounds of BlackJack and Roulette for a prize up to £25,000. I must admit its done very well since around 100,000 has been watching it.

3) Spy TV (Hidden Camera Shows)
The same method is going to be applied to the February Schedule by adding a 2 Hour Hidden Camera Block (4-5pm & 8-9pm) by showing US Oblivious, Make My Day and Street Magicians.

Honestly at the moment the UK Channel is an utter mess as they are buying single archive formats in a series by series basis and if they fail to get enough viewers they just repeat that series over and over the problem is that those series are short term runs of having 6-12 Episodes. They shows them weekdaily then dump them on the weekends, also they are buying utter crap shows. In the past few months they have bought and shown:

I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here USA (Going to be reshown for the THIRD time next month)
Extreme Endurance (Based on the Japanese show but it only contains about 5 mins footage the remaining 10 mins is listening to comic prats in a studio)
Kenji's Letters Home (Pointless mini shows gives a Japanese Student his thoughts on UK Culture)
US Bloopers (The same ABC show but the channel has got 8 episodes and used to show them every day)
Robotica US (The same show on TLC i.e. the Poor Mans Robotica)
Better Homes (a DIY show to see which out of two houses can raise the biggest earnings and this is being shown at 8pm!)
Takeshi's Castle (Originally is was meant to be shown on the weekends but now its on something like 20+ times a week! and is getting too boring)
Sushi TV (Another Eng/Jap showing stuff already been shown on Tarrant On TV yonks ago).

The only good thing from the the channel is that they have acquired US Survivor I to be shown every night across 2 weeks but if it fails to attract ratings then they will show that series endless times and don't bother purchasing future series the same method applies to nearly all of the shows they have bought at the moment its too much relying on Takeshi's Castle as that is the only show what keeping them alive honestly they are too greedy of asking for more viewers and is gaining the same figures as they were 4 years ago when they had loads of Game Shows but had them in bulks of episodes, the only bulks are those shown on weekday mornings with PYCR (4 Series X 13 episodes), BPIR (4 Series X 13 Episodes). They think they want to beat the likes of ITV2 (Who will be showing American Idol 3 soon) and E4 but these channels are unstoppable on Digital TV.

Don't like the new programming moves either.  Well, I guess I have the mornings and the late hours to look forward to now...

Matt Vasgersian of "Sports Genuises" is the actual host.  Scantlin's going to play the Lisa Guerrero role on the show, so to speak (both relating to "Sports Genuises" and her current "Monday Night Football" gig, as it turns out).

So far this doesn't seem too bad.  I'm a big fan of "The Mole" too, and it will be great to see the first series again.  I guess a lot of this depends on what else they've got up their sleeve.   Until the announcement, we can only wonder what the rest of the schedule will look like...

Well, IIRC, they only really want to remake primetime at the moment.

Wanna bet they're doing their best to get reruns of "Survivor". That would probably be their most expensive acquisition ever. (Assuming the rights are even available to them)

There's supposed to be a Reality Channel launching later this year, and that station is supposedly looking to get reruns of some of these reality shows, too.

I suspect GSN will try to get the rest of the Regis Millionaire run in the near future.

Ehhhh not as bad as I thought at all. I was prepared for the worst and while we get some crap (Kenny vs Spenny?!?! oh god why am I expecting a JACKASS clone =-O)

The mole is very cool - good choice. (now please forbid yourself from conducting ANY other business with Stone Stanley, thank you)

Spy TV is at least funny (well they couldve gone full monty and picked up a Candid Camera run but beggers cant be choosers)

World Series of blackjack, given the poker shows success is just good business and I must say may be quite intresting even if other networks beat em to it.

It looks like they are hanging on to the game shows in the daytime so far which is good I was fearing video game and other oddball programming (i guess the VG block tanking didnt go too unoticed).

I think they may just find a happy medium here, which isnt a bad thing at all.
