One sound effect that always piqued my curiosity was the "winning bell" that would rapidly ring when a team reached 25 points, then near the end would "slow down" to a stop.
I had a theory: Was this bell manually operated by turning a crank for a wheel that had evenly-spaced hammers/clappers that would ring the bell as they passed by...then the operator would let go of the crank and the wheel and dings would slow to a dead stop?
Can anyone confirm or deny this particular bell set-up? With all the other electronic buzzers and bells they used, I was surprised that they would use such an "archaic" contraption, but that sure sounds like it.

I mean, I guess they could have, but honestly I always just figured it was a person with a traditional doorbell button just pressing it rapidly then slowing down on the last few dings.

Never occurred to me to ask but I thought it was a dinner chime (tiny xylophone).

I feel like that would be too prone to misfires (missing the chime with the mallet), but I guess anything's possible.

Maybe the mechanism was motorized and started to slow down when power was cut off to the motor?

That was my assumption as well

I was hoping the guy with the xylophone on Number Please moved to Password.

How about the lightning round time's up sound later on in the 60s run? It basically sounds like some guy smacking a bunch of different percussions.

Side note/observation: They had a different bell when they were in Hollywood. Distinctly different.

As a percussionist, that sounds like someone swinging the clapper around in a dinner bell.
