Title: What's yet to air regularly on BUZZR?
Post by: gamed121683 on December 24, 2024, 06:29:02 AM
With that Match Game ‘90 Week coming to BUZZR in January (as of this typing, I’m still not sure on if it’s a launch marathon of it coming the regular schedule or not), it got me to thinking, what other shows in Fremantle’s library have never been featured on BUZZR’s regular lineup (although, it may have shown up in a marathon) or have never aired at all besides Bill Rafferty’s “Blockbusters”, “Match Game ‘98”, & “Scrabble”?

There's the other Grundy shows.........perhaps most notably "Hot Streak".

That would also include John Davidson's Time Machine. I believe that was his first hosting gig. Also, Pat Bullard's Card Sharks has yet to air on Buzzr.

Add Judge For Yourself to the "never aired at all" list.

As well as Scattergories and Small Talk.

The syndicated versions of TPiR are still yet to make their appearances. A little surprised Game Show Marathon hasn't popped up by now, either.
Wood & Narz Beat the Clock haven't aired in regular rotation.

The 1980, 1990 and 2000 versions of To Tell the Truth have never been on the regular schedule though they've all aired in specials - the 1990 version more than the others, enough so that that handful of shows gets rotated in with the Moore version.

Other series I have yet to see outside of a here or there episode as part of a theme day:    Trivia Trap

And how many episodes of He Said She Said have ever been aired on Buzzr or GSN For that matter.  Is the whole series still out there somewhere?

American Idol? Baywatch?

If I remember correctly, Trivia Trap was a regular feature of Buzzr's schedule during that brief period when every "new" episode the network converted came out blurry, making it difficult to watch. So even if Buzzr wanted to put the show back in regular rotation, they'd probably have to convert more tapes.

I genuinely lol'ed at this.

Early episodes of Illinois Instant Riches appear to have a MGP logo on them...has the Rafferty Card Sharks been seen outside of that syndicated run around 2016?

How much Feud has aired? I don’t remember how deep they got into the Combs run, and the current series doesn’t seem to have aired very much either.

That probably knocks out much of the first few years or so, but there were a number of episodes GSN aired from ~1955-56 that didn't have such sponsorship.

Based on what GSN's aired, if any show in the archive is unlikely to show up on Buzzr due to cigarette ads, it's Judge For Yourself... and that's not even getting into the potential issue of music and performer rights.

How much Feud has aired? I don’t remember how deep they got into the Combs run, and the current series doesn’t seem to have aired very much either.
I'm pretty sure they've never had Challenge or the 1994-95 season on the regular schedule.

Rafferty aired Sunday Nights as far back as 2021, last I saw. Then *poof* it was gone again.

I'm curious why BUZZR hasn't dipped into the catalog of English-language shows from abroad. Could make for an "Across the Pond" block, or something like that.

Lost in translation - i've always believed. The UK Version with Michael Barrymore was tremendous - all because of him and his interaction with the players. Funny, sweet, supportive...

Joe Garagiola on the other hand was a fish out of water there.

I remember seeing an add (Let's say Electronic Media magazine)...for SIR, with an artists rendering of the set - and it was duplicating the UK version with 3 couples and 3 rows of computers.

I support this, if only because it’s the only show I was ever a contestant on.

Me, too. I like your idea of packaging them into a block, which would allow for sampling a show once. Even a game with trivia like Tipping Point might garner enough curious viewers once or twice to overcome the British questions.

Some personal favorites that have not:

1) New Hollywood Squares - John Davidson
2) $100,000 Pyramid - John Davidson
(Seriously, what will it take to watch one of my favorite underrated game show hosts?!)
3) Family Feud - 1994 Richard Dawson

We're only talking about Fremantle shows here.

(I do have to reluctantly give the person you replied to some credit: Davidson's HS is THE older show, regardless of who owns it, that we know still exists that I wish would turn up somewhere

Also regarding the one Fremantle-owned show on their list: I actually do think it's a little surprising that so little of Feud '94 has run on Buzzr. Never on the regular schedule, and the full hour of the Halloween show and the Betty vs. Carol half hours are all that have turned up in stunts AFAIK. Given how much of his earlier, more well-regarded, versions haven't rerun I'm not holding out hope any time this millennium - since "running out of Gene eps" is almost assuredly a reason we're getting MG 90 now - but I really liked the 1994 iteration and of what Fremantle's sitting on still, Feud '94 is fairly high on my wishlist.

I'm not sure who the source is for this (possibly John Ricci) but it's my understanding that the masters for Davidson Squares are currently missing.

You do realize that even though it’s largely the same company the network has to PAY for the rights to air these shows. Different shows, even different versions of the same show, have different costs attached to them because specific profit participants differ.

Ratings, such as they are, are inconsequential, and BUZZR’s distribution and reach has diminished over time.

Fremantle’s mandate to irs management is to come as close to making money as possible.

Therefore, fewer episodes at a time are licensed from cheaper series.

It’s quite likely the titles you’re “clamoring” for simply aren’t worth the trouble or the expense.

As far as I've always read, CBS owns that version outright, since the show ended with a Paramount logo.

Paramount also sold Davidson TPIR.

But bear in mind—they were only a distributor for a few, with no IP ownership whatsoever.  Whoever created and produced those shows or their estates own them.  For what that’s worth
