Besides Hugh Downs, Betty White, Robert Earle, Henry Polic III, and Elaine Joyce, how many people have hosted only one game show?
-
Well over 100. Plus Matt Ottinger.

For reasons that were never made clear to me, WKAR considers QuizBusters and QBJR to be two separate series. So there.

Do pilots count? If not, Pat Sajak's only hosted one - and what a success that's been!!

Not really...didn't he do College Bowl that one time in '84?
Still, we get your point :)

Two that I can think of: Doug Davidson and Patrick Wayne (riiiggghhht?).
-
Hmm...did that Steve Edwards guy ever do anything besides...uh...whatever that one unsold pilot was? I seem to remember that back when GSN did that marathon, no one had the slightest clue who he was.

Well over 100. Minus Matt Ottinger.

Steve never hosted a non-pilot game show, and he has at least three pilots to his credit: Get Rich QUick(Stewart pilot GSN aired in 2000), Pandemonium(Wolpert pilot mentioned on Randy Amasia's Whew! page), and the pilot for a 1991 syndicated version of Scrabble which failed to sell at NATPE. He appeared on the one-time FOX special Since You've Been Gone in 2001, which Tom Bergeron hosted.

Depends if you count pilots...Davidson hosted a lottery special called Scream for Millions in the late 90's [1997?] and Patrick Wayne hosted some kind of pilot in 1981 which was briefly mentioned on his Celebrity Bullseye episode.

I don't count pilots, but the encyclopedia (2nd edition; maybe more or fewer depending if the individual hosted a subsequent show) lists 350 people who had only one actual aired game show to their credit. Here they are: Willie Aames, Mike Adamle, Don Adams, Joey Adams, oh forget it!
-
Doesn't James Vipond have a page that lists all those 'one-show wonders' of the GS hosting fraternity/sorority? You could just as easily check it out for yourself.
Cordially,
Tammy Warner--the 'Jane Nelson of the Big Board!'
-
Don't forget Rolf Berniske who hosted Wheel for around 6 months in 89.
-
Would Chuck Barris fit in this category too? To my knowledge all he hosted was the Gong show.

He would if pilots are not counted. Since we're counting pilots, he did a pilot for NBC in the mid 80s called Comedy COurtroom(co-hosted by USA Up All Night co-hostess Rhonda Shear)

"Get Rich Quick" was the pilot they showed. I remember reading on Randy Amasia's site long ago that he did a pilot for Jay Wolpert.....forgot what it was, though.

"Pandemonium." And it was reported here he hosted a pilot for a syndicated version of "Scrabble" around when it went off on NBC.

I certainly know at least 3 from the NBC ranks:
Vicki Lawerence-Win, Lose or Draw!
Amad Rischad(sp?)-Ceasar's Challenge
Billy Bush-Let's Make A Deal

Tom Bergeron, Frank Nicetero...that clown that originally hosted "Chain Reaction" on USA, Mike Darrow....
-
Mike Darrow
Wrongo! Mike had the original "Dream House" on ABC long before the "Jackpot" gig. My EOTVGS has a picture of him behind his DH podium welcoming a special guest to the studio, a gentleman named Monty Hall (wearing a sweatshirt with "MONTY" on the front of it in those iron-on letters) who was about to debut a new show on ABC, a little game about trading. It was, um, moderately successful. ;)

Mike hosted at least two others. The 1960s Dream House and the first season of The $128,000 Question.
By the way, Don, calling Blake Emmons a clown is an insult to all clowns.

Damn, didn't know it was the same Mike Darrow. That game you mentioned? You must be talking about "Its Anybody's Guess". :)

Add Wally Bruner to the list.
-
Amad Rischad(sp?)-Ceasar's Challenge
Actually he's hosted more then one game show, if you count the celebrity Mole Hawaii as a game show.

Call me Horanic ("YOU'RE HORANIC!"), but that little game wasn't new--it was just new to ABC and moving over from NBC.
Carry on.

I had no idea. Perhaps I would do well to actually READ the text accompanyting the pictures in the EOTVGS. ;)

And let us not forget John Bartholomew Tucker
(Who? I forgot. Oh, "Treasure Isle.")

Would you consider "Supermarket Sweep" and "The Honeymoon Race" the same show? If so, add Bill Malone to the list of one show hosts. Also, David Ruprecht of "Supermarket Sweep."
