I've seen PYL give away Chevy Sprints during the 84-85 season, usually in the $5300+ range, yet LMAD didn't give them away(they gave away those ugly Chevettes!)
When LMAD gave away Sprints in 85-86, were they cheaper or more expensive then the Chevettes at the time?

Cheaper...the Chevettes were about $6400.

The tide might've turned by late '85, since that's when the Sprint officially became the Chevette's replacement. Dealers eager to get the Chevettes off their lots probably offered deals good enough to undercut the Sprint's lower price by quite a margin. Apparently Bill Carruthers saw through the charade and opted to spend more to give his contestants a better car.

Actually, the Chevette's last model year was 1987 (I should know, as my sister-in-law got a sweet deal on one of the last ones at a Chevy dealer here in NJ---as you said, dealers wanted it off their lots PDQ). In any case, I don't seem to recall the Sprint being offered on PYL. I do remember the Sentra and, if memory serves me correct, wasn't the Fiero also offered towards the 85-86 season?

PYL's highest priced car was about $6300, and the Fiero's base price was $9K IIRC(LMAD84-85 and NTT84-85 gave away a few Fieros)

Does anyone know an exact price to the nearest $100 on the Sprint when LMAD gave them away? I need more specific info.
Anyway, a few responses to your replies:
1. PYL did give away Chevy Sprints starting in Sept '84, replacing the Nissan Sentra.. GSN has aired these eps., and I've precisely heard Rod Roddy describe the car as a Chevy Sprint when someone won it on there.
2. The Chevy Chevettes(really crappy when they're yellow or blue!) LMAD gave away were $6288.10(beg. of run-Jan '85), $6492(Feb-Apr '85 and $6633(Apr.'85 to end of Brian's season of announcing LMAD.. unless they gave away any Chevettes during Dean Goss's run as announcer.)
3. PYL's most expensive car was $6273(info thanks to Curt's PYL game!), unless PYL gave even better cars very late in the run higher in price.
4. $9000 for the base price of the Fiero? Is that without tax & license, which would make it $10,105(when LMAD gave them away.. of which they've given away a few in the recent GSN airings.)

In the "why I didn't have a life in 1985-86" file: The price of the Sprint on the second season of All New LMAD, with tax and license, was $6164.

When they aired the '85-'87 eps. of TPIR on Thursdays, what was the price of those Chevettes?
-
Thanks, Zach!
Boy, and I thought LMAD got a better budget in the 85-86 season.. but it's awful to see such a cheap car, that is worse than the Chevette, on the show!
Especially when it's the ugly econo-car Chevy Sprint.
Look, if it wasn't for GSN's airings of LMAD and PYL, along with my frequent recordings of both shows, I wouldn't be able to know this stuff.
BTW, I really hope GSN does have the 85-86 season in some form.. (we'll see in a few weeks, as GSN is beginning to reach the end of 84-85... I think.)

Doesn't exist. An exact price is exact, not within $100.

Sorry, I didn't expect an exact price to be told to me so fast.

That must be one huge f-ing file cabinet.

And that's just one year! There's thirty some more file cabinets to go!

Changing shows briefly, let's have a warm welcome for the newest 'el cheapo' car to grace the 'Price' stage:
The Chevy Aveo The little car that helps Roger stay on budget.
(I'll let Zach the intern look up the price and options... I'm going outside.)
-
The Aveo's an ironic choice for Price, since they're so bent on giving away American cars: it's made in Korea by Daewoo.

No, they want to *sound* patriotic by giving away cars with American names. Goodness knows you'd never see them give away a Toyota, even if it *is* built in San Antonio...
