While tuned to the radio on this day, I realized that the opening measures of Black Is Black by Los Bravos are similar to those of the Alan Thicke version of Celebrity Sweepstakes.
I also noticed that The Rolling Stones' Undercover Of The Night opens very nearly like $ale of the Century did in its 1988-89 theme--just the opening notes.
I further noticed that Herb Alpert's Whipped Cream sounds like music played during The Dating Game. This, no doubt, is because it was.

With regards to Black is Black, can anyone confirm an urban legend I thought I once heard way back when, that the song was about a man who....um....wanted to have "Katie Vick" relations with an old love? (WWE reference there, BTW)
Another soundalike...there was some fairly recent song that sounded like someone putting lyrics to the Davidson HS theme...not caring about much current music, I don't know what and by whom.

Oh.... I see... you want to play this game! O.K. Go listen to KYLIE MINOGUE
"Can't get you out of my head". You will notice a similarity to a certain fee plug cue from The 70's Dating/Newlywed Games.
I also recall Marc Summer's "Pick Your Brain" had a theme very much like an Alanis Morisette song .... I can't remember exactly which one.

I think he means Nelly f/Kelly Roland's "Delima" from 2002 that sounds just like Sax Storm's Davidson HS's theme to a certain extent. Man. it seems strange that certain songs sound like some game show themes even if we don't notice them at first. It takes a few listenings to figure it out. By then, it all comes back to you like a boomerang.

Am I the only one who has noticed a slight resemblence of the main melody of the "Sanford and Son" theme, and the theme from "Now You See It"?
(Maybe that's because they were on the same album...)

I'd figure it'd be innocuous, but thats it, in its correct spelling.
Perhaps we all forgot about Santa Esmerlada's "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood", used as the tempo on the '79 Bullseye pilot.

Cullen TPIR sounded somewhat similar to "My Three Sons" to me. Also the middle part of the NBC Wimbledon theme of the early 80's reminded me of Tattletales '74.
-
Also, one of the music cues when WoF went to commercial in the Woolery days (I heard it on the "candy dish" 1980 episode of WoF that is in the circuit), I thought sounded a lot like parts of "Temptation Eyes" by The Grass Roots....
-
Also, part of the instrumental break on "Funkytown" by Lipps Inc. sounded like the opening notes to the Bullseye theme.

I've got some crazy ballroom album with a cover of Stevie Wonder's Yester-Me, Yester-You, Yester-Day. Somehow the band managed to turn it into something that sounds a lot like the Wally/Larry "What's My Line?" theme.

OK, here's something that's been bugging me. For years, NBC has used a music cue leading into commercials on their Wimbledon coverage (and it's only used at Wimbledon; they don't use it for their French Open coverage). It's a stock music piece that I've heard on commercials as well (the ending of which was also used on CBS Sports with legendary announcer Don Robertson intoning, "When you look for champions, you look to CBS Sports").
Anybody know the name of this cue?
Doug -- and the countdown to 800 continues

Well, there is a portion of Chaka Khan's "I Feel For You" that reminds me of the current Feud theme, or at least the Anderson version.
-
The chorus of Alice Cooper's "Teenage Lament '74." Noticed it back then, notice it whenever Music Choice's 70s channel plays it--it sounds a lot like "Tuning Up," the "$10,000 Pyramid" theme. (And considering that Cooper was a game show geek, as reported by Rolling Stone in a cover story on him...)
That's the "Let me tell ya what I wanna do..." part...

If the rumors are true, that isn't the only way in which Mr. Cooper was a geek. ;)

That would explain his appearance as a celeb during the 2nd season of 2 Minute Drill.

I must admit I'm quite surprised by some of the similarities that have been mentioned. I'm familiar with pretty well all of the songs people have brought up, and I didn't really notice the same similarities when listening to them myself. I guess we all have different ears!

One more for the list: To all soap fans out there, did anyone else notice a vague similarity between the People On TV pilot theme and the last (Feb-Dec 1986) theme to Search For Tomorrow ("Somewhere In the Night")?

Not having paid much attention to this thread the first time around, I'll add my two cents... the opening of Mr. Mister's "Kyrie" (the instrumental portion, right after two or three stretched out wailings of "Kyrie... Elaison") bears a striking resemblance (in my mind, at least) to the sound of the PYL board.

Journey's "Separate Ways" sounds like the Press Your Luck theme
-
The "Spin-Off" theme sounds a lot like the brief swirly intro to Frank DeVol's "Family Affair" theme.

I can kind of see where he's coming from... the synth in the beginning is vaguely reminiscent of the PYL synth. Vaguely. Extremely vaguely. I wouldn't say "sounds like," but rather, "could remind a drunk frat guy of."

Useful information? Me? :)
Like Mark, my first instinct was that it didn't come close. But after thinking about it, in a weird sort of way the line "some...day...love...will...find...you" does have the meter/rhythm of the PYL theme but not quite the same melody.
So it is still a reach, but not exhorbitantly. :)
