Man, I love posts like these!!!

However, I doubt they were Shure....I'd assume they may have been made by AKG. They used to have a page of all their old mics, but last I checked, it's no more.

As long as we're on the topic of mics, can anyone tell me the make/model of Barker's current mic?

I know that the actual mic element part is made by Neumann [VERY well-known manufacturer of high-quality mics], but I believe the actual handheld part is a special CBS-made part.

Here is the picture of the mic in question. (http://\"http://fs5.deviantart.com/i/2004/360/f/6/Jeopardy_microphone__1984_97_by_johnnysama.jpg\")

I couldn't find a good place to put my pic........ (oh, and to see the mic, press enter on the address bar.)

As for wireless hand-held mics...I'm sure Monty Hall was the first to use one on LMAD in 1976 (prior to that, I believe it was corded microphone attached to a wireless receiver on his waist). And I said at ATGS that many shows used the Vega R-42 mikes throughout much of the '80s and '90s (and I guess they're still used today, but with current transmitters to replace the outdated ones), while Doug Davidson on the '94 nighttime TPIR and others had the Sennheiser SKM 5000.

Monty's l-o-n-g silver mic was a Shure. I can post the model number when I'm next home.

Correct. All but the element was fabricated at CBS.

Actually (boy am I gonna pay for this), Monty's mic was an Electro-Voice RE-55. (http://\"http://www.bsu.edu/met/gobbledygook/cr/electrovoice/ev_re55_info.html\") Ross Shafer also used one for most of Match Game '90.

Here's the similar-looking Shure SM-63 (http://\"http://www.shure.com/microphones/models/sm63.asp\") Randy mentioned.

As for the Jeopardy! mics, I remember once seeing mics on Schoeps's website that looked like them. CBS also used them for some of the very early $25K Pyramid shows in 1982, before they switched to the ubiquitous Sonies.

No grief; totally my error. Yes, that was/is an EV RE-55. Sorry; just a brain freeze. I wonder if I've been in Louisiana too long - at least I haven't married a relative   ;-)

To make up for the error, if there's interest, I'll bring some of my mic collection to he next GSC - it's scheduled for August at the Burbank Hilton again. The RCA 77-DXs (Letterman, Larry King, etc.) are works of art.

And, interestingly, they switched BACK to the Schoeps modulars after the Sony ECM-53's, except they were now in the table.

However, most of my mic expertise is in handheld and studio mics, not goosenecks. :(

Chris mentioned the EV 635A.  Those things are indestructable.

I used to use one on live remote broadcasts at one of the radio stations I used to work for.  I'd have to use it to beat the supports on our canopy to get it up... then would plug it in and use it on the air.

In fact... I may still have one floating around here somewhere.

Speaking of mics... my current radio employer loaned me a EV RE-20 to use in my home studio.  Talk about a great mic.  :-)

Would Schoeps be the long silver "gooseneck" mics that kinda "curled" towards the contestant? I think Wink's TTD used them for sometime as well...

See Thom McKee's first pic (http://\"http://www.loogslair.com/gameshow/rules/tictac.shtml\")

Then, for some time throughout the 80s Pyramid run, there were these small gray things that sat on the desk, in front of each player. Were those mics as well?

The E-V RE50 is almost universally used today for ENG (remote pickup) applications. It consists of a 635A encased in a second, outer casing and isolated by a layer of neoprene. This gives the 635A additional resistance to external shock.

Nope. Those are the Sony ECM-53s you see in the TTD pic. The small gray mics on Pyramid were Schoeps mics called Colettes. Colette is a modular system of pickup heads, cables, mounts and stands configurable in countless ways. Here's more than you ever wanted to know about Colettes (http://\"http://www.schoeps.de/E-2004/overview-mod-mics.html\"). It looked as if Pyramid, around 1984 and 1985, used pressure-zone mics before they switched to the Colettes in early '86, no?

Re 635A: They don't call 'em Hammers (http://\"http://www.broadcast.net/pipermail/broadcast/2002-January/158205.html\") for nothin'.

I can also name a few shows that Jeopardy! mic was seen on- it was also seen on the Newlywed Game (1996 version), The New Hollywood Squares (with John Davidson), and the Dating Game (late 80s version).

I know this is a gooseneck mic, but if that part of it was taken off, and it was used just as a handheld, it would look a lot better than TPIR one Bob currently has, and actually looks similar to the previous black one that he used.

http://www.akg.com/picture.php?txt=%3Cstro...55c995e4b80.jpg (http://\"http://www.akg.com/picture.php?txt=%3Cstrong%3EFor%20image%20download%3A%20right%20click%20image%2C%20click%20%22Save%20Picture%20%28Image%29%20As%22%2C%20click%20%22Save%22.%3C%2Fstrong%3E&pic=/mediadatabase/pspic/hires/52/cgn321_5214055c995e4b80.jpg\")

I work at a local television station, and seems like we are slowly getting rid of our old sony lavs in favor of AKG equipment.

Also, i have purchased an ecm-31 off ebay. It seems to be the step below the ecm-51. Was wondering if it had a windscreen like the 51, since the actual head of the microphone looks like that of lavs which had the same windscreen, like the one Dawson used on FF. i think the ecm-56 or 76 or something.

The GSC organizers say they will again be at the Burbank Hilton in August, but there are details still to be firmed. As they tell it:

... Probably should be on the weekend before Labor Day, 2005 - we should get confirmation soon - trying to work with the Burbank Hilton, but they are having some construction issues at that time...

The Jeopardy microphone (http://\"http://usera.imagecave.com/johnnysama/microphone.jpg\")

I happened to notice this microphone on SNL and MadTV-
The SNL skit in question was from 1986, and was called Quiz Masters, and the other was from MadTV's 2002-03 Season Premiere, and one of the skits was "All-Star American Idol"- and those mics are there!

Sorry I haven't been able to get the pic up.
