Title: Match Game airings
Post by: Gamer on November 18, 2005, 09:49:06 PM
I've noticed that none of the older Match Game episodes are airing on GSN right now.  They're all the newer episodes with the different set and no Richard Dawson.  Does anyone know if GSN will be showing the older episodes any time soon?  Older as in MG73 to 77?  It's kinda strange that all three weekday airings and the weekend airings are all later episodes.

Or am I SDP?*

Thanks!  I caught MG74 today at 3PM(ET).  At least one airing is an older one.

Well today I noticed that the 3:30(ET) airing of Match Game is MG '76 but I suspect this might have been a one-time deal because Pat Morita from Karate Kid was on the panel and I heard he recently passed away.  Guess I'll see tomorrow if MG '76 is still on.

GSN is doing a weeklong tribute to Pat Morita.  So MG76 will be on tomorrow and the rest of the week, but probably not next week.

Oh well.  Too bad it's not permanent.  I'm getting sick of those "Blue" MG episodes.  Each one of the 3 weekday airings are "Blue" episodes.

Everything comes full circle.  I seem to remember back around '98 or '99; all they showed were episodes from early in the run.

And this is not like 100-episode sitcoms that can recycle in five months.  When you're doing a series that made approximately 250 episodes every year, it's going to take almost real-time for them to recycle.

Exactly.  That's why it would make sense for gsn to show a different year for each airing to get as many different episodes aired as possible.  After all the show airs 3 times a weekday and twice on the weekends.

Except a) most people don't care, and b) then the diehards would bitch that they were cycling through them too fast.

But stress the (a). The average viewer just sees Match Game and goes "ooh, Match Game, I remember this."

You're right.  Most people don't care.  It's a good thing they show Match Game at all.  I'll just have to be satisfied with the 2 episodes of mg '74 that trickle out each week.

MG '74 at 11 et/10ct.

What amuses me is the fact that GSN is touting MG "That 70's hour" as starting next Monday at 11pm/10ct. It is already in that slot. That is a "duh" on GSN's part for sure. Par for the course I guess.

I believe the difference is that MG will air all five weeknights at 11PM ET/PT starting next week, whereas it's only airing tonight this week.  So officially the touting is for next week.

Actually 7 nights a week if tvguide.com is right.

Yeah that is if they're even old enough to have seen it originally.  According to that the majority of gsn's audience would be over 40.

Uh, the majority of GSN's audience IS over 40.

(And you need to work on your math. Match Game ran into the 80's. I'm not even 35 and I watched LOTS of it in first-run.)

yeah yeah yeah.  Simmer down there fella.  You seem overly agressive, confrontational and rude all the time.  There's no need for that buddy.  Show me some stats that shows the majority of gsn's audience is over 40.  On second thought forget it.  I really don't care.

You should talk to the mods--they can get you an "In The Biz" tag, Mr. Osmond.
