Just finished reading Bob Eubanks' terrific book "It's In the Book, Bob!", and I learned that he was one of 2 hosts considered for the job on CS...the other?
Let's just say those cries of "YOU WIN!!" after every game would've grated on viewers' nerves pretty quickly...

Just the thought of the rappin' money cards bonus round...well, never mind.
-
Who was the other one, Bill Rafferty?
-
Holy bejeepers, Mary, Moses and good sweet GOD WOW!
Patrick Wayne? Tic Tac Dough '90? "YOOOOOOOOOOUUUU WIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNN!"? Ring a bell?
-
You know, I haven't seen Wayne's TTD since it was rerunning on USA, and I really don't remember how bad he supposedly was. (Not that I'm doubting you guys...) This is probably the only time anyone will ever ask this...but could someone maybe put up a short clip of him shouting you-know-what?

Goodson and Co. must have considered him after his appearances on SP and BL in Summer 1985.

Let's also say Press Your Luck would've been back at 10:30am Eastern within thirteen weeks.

Well....Jim Lange did say he'd make a good game show host!
Which leads me to a question: who exactly decided that he should act like that? Is that what the producers of the show wanted? You'd figure that if they thought he was over-doing it, they'd have stepped in a told him to tone it down a bit. Reportedly, Jon Bauman was lectured after every "Match Game/Hollywood Squares Hour" - they could have done the same for Patrick.

Why? I know we have a lot of Bauman-haters around here, but I think the flaw was more in the format than with the host.

Jim Lange isn't one who should be recommending hosts, IMO, he wasn't particularly good.

I think the one that Goodson wanted was Bruce Forsyth.

I'd be more willing to take Bob's word for it, even though the website says otherwise.

I have to disagree. I thought that the format was fine. In my opinion they melded together well. Even Mr. Rayburn couldn't stand Bauman. I blame the failure of MGHS more on Bauman as well as the 3PM timeslot. I think this would have been a perfect show to comepete against TPIR at 11. With a stronger host in place of Bauman I think it could have lasted at least a few seasons.

Well, you are certainly entitled to that opinion, though I will tell you now that it's shared by pretty much nobody. :)

Yea, that's true! Jim Lange himself wasn't a very good host to begin with. And he needs to rethink about what he said about Wayne making a great host and step up hosting a bit himself, too!
But anyway, i didn't know that Goodson and Co. were consdiering Patrick for host, b/c I thought it was always Bruce Forsyth that was originally considered to host, until he was tapped at the last mniute for Hot Streak on ABC.

In fact, at the time NBC was just considering "MG/HSH" to be nothing more than a place filler until the Dobsons were ready to go with "Santa Barbara." The show's stay on the air was due only to the fact that it takes at least a year to get a soap on the air from first pitch to premiere episode.
