Well, got it all IO/Tivo'ed and set to go, the final week of P+ with Tom Poston and Audrey Landers set to air all this week.
I'll ask the obvious question just for the kicks and nothing more...
What kind of odds do you want to lay down on GSN NOT doing the credits squish and actually letting it run?
I'll open the bid with... 15 to 1.
-
I think I will email them and specifically request that they squeeze them as much as possible.

I'll give GSN: The Network For Games the benefit of the doubt and say we'll get a full roll as they did with the NBC Card Sharks finish a few years back. As for the CBS Card Sharks final episode which is also not far off, I believe it'll be scrunch city.
And now, the odds <<cue the Celebrity Sweepstakes scoreboard sound>>
Password Plus finale credits untouched---1:1
CBS Card Sharks finale credits untouched---99:1
-
Squeezed (squozed?) credits are a matter of form on TV today. If GSN retyped all the credits and ran them down the side on black background during the promo, even that might not pacify everyone.
One thing that the kids might not know is that NBC generally would cover up the audio for last 30-45 seconds of the show and instead of the show theme there would be whatever network image campaign was being used that season with Danny Dark or Casey Kasem hawking that evening's exciting "Supertrain" or "Hello, Larry." The themes didn't get heard then, either.

Strange that they'd do six with each set of celebrities...I guess the airings got out of the Monday-Friday rotation and they wanted to end up with the same celebrities through their final week.
About a year earlier, "Celebrity Whew" was also out of sync, but they did have a different set of celebrities come on for the final two shows. (Must have been a short taping day!)
-
Please be advised that having seen the finale, there is no full credit roll on the final show. Kennedy does recite a partial list of credits as the music is playing after the fee plugs. My guess is that we won't see or hear any of it (especially if Chris E-mails them :) )--they'll cut the show off in mid fee plug.

For those who remember watching this show from week to week - was it normal practice to see a Tuesday episode with one set of celebs, then on Wednesday, a new set? Was this common on these shows?
-
In the '70s, CBS was the only network that would "hold" a pre-empted show until the next day. This would lead to celebrities on "Match Game" et al sometimes changing on a Wednesday. The other networks seemingly wanted to keep the Monday-Friday cycle and didn't follow suit.
However, NBC had a change of stance in the '80s as old TVGuides confirm that "Password Plus" did have celebrities changing part way through the week towards the end of the run. It also started happening on "Super Password" around 1987. I guess they didn't want to just not air an episode.

But at least on SP, they would tape a four-show week to compensate for a news pre-emption. This was also evident on $otC.

...and in some places, the NBC affiliate would cover up NBC's promo with their own promo. So instead of hearing the network announcer talk over the "Proud As a Peacock" music, you'd be hearing a local news anchor talk over the exciting "Theme From the 6 O'Clock News." Whoopee.

In the summer of 1987, game show broadcasts got thrown off because of the Iran Contra hearings. Sometimes the morning airing of "The $25,000 Pyramid" got bumped to 2:00 in the afternoon. In fact, "Pyramid" showed repeats for four weeks until the hearings were over.
"Super Password" was pre-empted once in May of that year, and they did tape a few four-day weeks to try to get back on track, but there would always be another pre-emption before those four-day weeks aired, so they'd still be off. They finally got caught up in August, after the hearings came to a close. I know that near the end of the run, news reports caused them to be thrown off schedule again. They had to tape a few six-show weeks to get back on track for the final two weeks.

This is not a post to argue about news coverage taking precedence over daytime programming(CNN was not in as many homes in the 80s as it is now):
The Bill Cullen/Kim Miyori week of SP shows GSN is currently airing(1/27/86-1/31/86) saw the Tuesday show preempted for the Challenger disaster coverage in most of the country(it occurred at 11:50AM EST IIRC, 10 minutes before NBC stations were supposed to air SP on the East Coast). Did they tape a four show week at some point to make up for that pre-emption? A few Wordplay weeks didn't air Mon-Fri either IIRC.
Also, in the Summer of 1987, Card Sharks aired at 12:30PM EST on some days at the height of Iran-Contra, followed by TPIR, which was in reruns at the time, at 1PM EST. Seems odd, especially in this day and age, that CBS would preempt soaps for game shows.
I guess ABC never bothered to air the Bargain Hunters episodes preempted that Summer.

SP did tape a four-day week because of the Tuesday pre-emption of the Miyori/Cullen week. The upcoming Patty Duke/Nathan Cook week will only have four days.

Actually one reason they pre-empted the soaps was for the noon news. CBS forces every affiliate to either have a noon news or fill half an hour.
CBS feeds out like this:
Feed #1: Noon eastern: Nothing Y&R @ 12:30 eastern B&B @ 1:30 eastern
Feed #2: Noon eastern: Y&R 1p eastern: Nothing 1:30 pm B&B 1:30 pm
They probably offered Card Sharks/TPIR since they didn't know exactly when the hearings would conclude, and with TPIR being in reruns, pre-empting it wasn't as big of a deal. Pre-empting soaps gets viewers irate to say the least, namely Y&R/B&B.

Remember that B&B was the new soap on the block at the time, only having premiered on 3/23/87, three or four months before the Irangate hearings were cutting into programming. It was probably still gathering an audience at that point. Hadn't Y&R become the most watched soap by that time, however?

I'm going to count my lucky pennies that they aired the finale at all -- after all, it might have confused some viewers into thinking the show was really going off GSN's schedule :)

There were only four weeks of those (Cullen then appeared for a fifth straight week, as Ludden returned). The Ludden comeback week was pretty good.
I'd prefer they start from the beginning, personally.

Now I'm curious where they were in the run before it was pulled of weekends several years ago.
I know they aired Ludden's return after Cullen hosted.
Didn't they get close to airing the Kennedy episodes before it was pulled?
Haven't some of the Ludden episodes not yet aired on GSN?

They were in the week of 9/8-9/12/80 (with Marcia Wallace and Robert Donner) when it got pulled from the weekend run (strangely enough, I was the one who posted about it in Usenet, but I had to go back to Usenet to look it up). That was about six weeks from the end of Ludden's run (the last Ludden ep did air as a part of the "Breakfast With The Stars" special).

Good to see Ludden back. I still don't like the early rules of P+, like the rule that says that once Team A gets the clue and makes a wrong guess at the puzzle, Team B has the option to play or pass the next word. Makes for a lot of backward strategy.
But no one knew any better at the time.

I believe there will be for at least a day or two. Leland was on the second week of the show, with Tony Randall and Mary Jane.
Next week on SP(starting 2/7 and continuing weekdays through 2/13) will be the first of the two infamous Tournament of Losers weeks held in 1986(airdates 2/10/86-2/14/86)
