Last I had heard, Bowzer was performing on cruise ships. This was circa 1998, IIRC.

Bauman's really let himself go...perhaps a chance encounter with Louie Anderson is to blame?
-
It was our station that reported the story....I wish I had known he was going to be in town...it would have been worth it to be the only reporter who knew him from MG/HS! I would have liked to have seen his reaction to that.
Did you see the soundbite? All it was was him doing his schtick, injecting law-related terms into it....and of course the trademark fist / jaw pump.....which is fine for a greaser, but odd for a middleaged man on state capitol hill.
He does still do the casino circuit, not as a greeter, but as a 'host' of Doo-wop parties.... Seems like he's at Foxwoods once a year....

I would speculate that the view of his reaction to that might be his backside as he's walking away from you.

In fairness, the man is 58 years old, and Sha Na Na's heyday was nearly 30 years ago.

Yep...as per Brooks & Marsh's "Complete Directory to Primetime Network and Cable TV Shows", the novelty was actually wearing off around the late 70s when their manager pushed them into the TV series, which helped re-launch their career.

But they weren't just any cover band--they played Woodstock, man! Far out! :)

You speculate correctly. Jon does not exactly have the fondest of memories of that experience, as I found out several years ago when I ended up teaching calculus to his daughter. Ironically, she actually enjoyed game shows, but had never seen her dad's stint on MG/HS.
Anyway, he came in for the parent/teacher conferences we held with all parents in December, and the first words out of his mouth were, "My daughter tells me you remember the Match Game/Hollywood Squares Hour. NO ONE remembers the Match Game/Hollywood Squares Hour!" We didn't speak long about the experience, but it was clear that he preferred to put it behind him.

All I have to say is that it has to be an incredibly surreal experience to have a parent-teacher conference with freakin' Bowzer. :)

Well, not every conference, but certainly a few. Also of note was when I taught Samuel L. Jackson's daughter, and the mom asked if it was ok if she missed some school after winter break. The reason: "Sam's hosting Saturday Night Live, so we wanted to go to New York and be with him." Not exactly the kind of excuse you rehearse for during teacher training...

"Mrs. Jackson, I need you to sign this lesson plan for your daughter."
"Oh, sure! Give me a second, I have a pen in my wallet."
"Oh? Does it say Bad Mother F**ker on it?"
If I'm Samuel L., I'm carrying one of those wallets. :)
