GSN's Newlywed Game And Dating Game
« on: June 04, 2008, 08:53:18 AM »
According to Reuters, GSN is looking to revive the classic game shows Newlywed Game and The Dating Game. It says that Michael Davies is set to be Executive Producer for both shows. SVP of GSN, Jamie Roberts was quoted as saying They are looking for "unusual Canidates" for hosts so they can "reinvent the shows". They will pick the hosts at the end of the week. http://www.reuters.com/article/televisionN...lBrandChannel=0

Thoughts?

Originally these were being shot for the Lifetime channel.

I like Davies, and I think these are both tried and true games that can be updated...but there's a fine line between keeping it semi-risque, like in the old days, and modernizing them enough to be full-blown filthy. I hope Davies knows the difference.

And the fact they're thinking about having a final round in "Newlywed" that would pit the day's winners against a winning team from one of the older series, plus the modern aspect of possibly using internet services to work with "Dating" give me hope- Davies knows what he's doing I think (if/when we hear about hosts, that might change however)

The last time they revived these shows with different formats, the first season did so badly that they reverted the shows back to their original formats and even asked Bob to return to Newlywed.  Hopefully Davies will give us something where he won't have to do that this time around.

I can see NG on a dark set with multiple choice questions and a money tree, but not DG.
Let's Make a Deal was the first show to air on Buzzr. 6/1/15 8PM.

OK, you now have dates with three girls. That's a safe level. Now for ten...

I was thinking more like-

"You have the Beverly Hills nanny, do you want to go for the Playboy model? but remember, get it wrong and you're back to the Hooters waitress- but also remember you're also just 3 questions away from the Swedish Triplets!"

I take it this would be the only show where the 'Money Tree' means you get progressively poorer as you move up it?

Somehow, "Personals" came back to mind (and that show had something in common with "Bingo America").

Actually, if they're executed right, it's a great idea on GSN's part--for the first time since they got a respectable portion of the cable universe, they're doing revivals of two iconic formats almost everyone knows (as much as others will say otherwise, "PYL" was and is a cult favorite and and the younger end of the audience didn't know what "IGAS" was).  Even better, they're formats that cannot have Mo Money attached to them, so they're perfect for a mid-level cable channel.  If they do it right, this could work.

That's kind of interesting!  But I bet those couples are getting harder and harder to find, at least those that are still married...

This concept doesn't work unless they bring back the "in the butt, Bob!" couple.
