As for DOND still, what would you want done differently?
Well, not to exist, primarily. But I realize that's not your question.

I dunno. Maybe sliders on the game board in lieu of those silly doors, like the old Fambly Feud game used to have before Endless ruined that. Or something other than cardboard sleeves and cards for the cases. (In their defense on that last one, at least the cards appear to be die-cut and of passable quality.

I'll be shocked if it hits shelves for less than $19.99, and that's a lot to pay for what is really a fairly ugly plastic scoreboard piece and a lot of paper and cardstock.

That "board" makes it look like a travel game. It almost makes me think it's recycled parts from the J! home game from the early-90s...the one where each category column was stand-alone, instead of a 6x6 game board.

For the "briefcases", I'd love to see a "tiered" setup, to match the steps...kinda like that board game "Guess Who?"

Which had slides. Even something like _that_ would be an improvement.

Ooh, that's a good idea, and the dollar amounts could be tiles that were shuffled and stuck in the back of the board. That I could get behind. I still wouldn't PLAY it, but at least the production would be interesting.

There is something to playing the WWTBAM box game by the book as a multiplayer exercise. And it's got nice components. But yes, overall, not that good of an idea.

Howie, the Banker and 26 models come over to my house, with actual money in their hands.  :)

You could omit "Howie", "the Banker", and "actual money" from that equation and I would still be perfectly content. :)

I think it's fair to assume that this boards post counts would go down for a few days.

The only way I would consider playing "Deal or No Deal" would be as a gambling game. Someone offers to act as the bank, and other players pay an entry fee of $x, and the dollar amounts go from $0.01 to $5x. Whatever you deal for or open is yours to keep. Rotate the bank as appropriate. (The way I'm thinking of would be $5 ante and $25 as the jackpot.)
If you didn’t create it, it isn’t your content.

I'm not sure why that would be interesting, either. In that case (and it amuses me that you mention this, considering our discussions on other boards), the concept of "pot odds" is now TOTALLY in play, and it's reduced to a mundane mathematical exercise, since it's a game of perfect information...either you're being lowballed, in which case you No Deal, or you get a fair offer, and it's basically a coin toss. Or the Banker slips up and offers you too much, and you take it, in which case the game now becomes Who's Better At Math.

I wouldn't be surprised to see something pop up as a Vegas table game (hey, if they can do Card Sharks...) to prey on semi-drunk people who CAN'T do the math, but around the table with your buddies? I dunno. Maybe I'm wrong, but I dunno.

It's already a slot machine. I saw it at Black Bear casino just south of Duluth--not exactly trendsetter country--last summer before the show even premiered here. I excitedly told my bride how they had slots based on an Australian game show, but she didn't share my enthusiasm and insisted we get back in the car and keep driving north.

There's a fundamental problem with DoND as a gambling game: You can't lose.

Yeah, slot machines don't count. The MGM Grand has a (very simplified) version of the Card Sharks Money Cards as an actual table game.

Not sure what you mean. Seems to me it would work like the casinos that spread Klondike Solitaire as a table game...you buy in for a certain amount of money, and you're paid back based on how well you do, and sometimes you're paid back more than the deck cost you, and sometimes you're paid back less. The latter I would absolutely call a loss.

Rest assured that if DoND were spread as a table game, the cost of admission and the "case" and Bank payouts would be massaged such that over the long run the casino makes money.

I don't know Klondike Solitaire, but I was thinking that you never walk away from the game with nothing--you always have at least a penny in your case and there will always be a bank offer.

The trouble here is how much would you ante? Say, the middle value on the board? The 5th highest value?

The bank offers would have to be drastically refigured to prevent a conservative player from settling for a small profit over and over. I suppose they could come far later in the game (which would make it way faster to play).

Money Cards would be way cool. Despite the rule differences, is it called "Card Sharks" and everything? And wasn't the whole high-low thing a card game way before the show ever came out?

They call it Acey-Deucey.

It was even on television before "CS"--Bob Hastings or Jack Clark would play Acey-Deucey with the audience over the credits on "Dealer's Choice."  Even though the host's mike was turned off during the credits, at least one instance of one of them starting up before the credits made it clear that Acey-Deucey was played for casino chips (or whatever they did when the show moved to LA).  Hastings or Clark carried around a deck of cards, would come up to an audience member and ask them if they thought the next card on top of the deck was higher or lower than the one they were showing.  If they were right, they got the chips.

Yeah you do. You can play it on any Windows box. (Comes with Macs, too, doesn't it? It's gotta. Someone wanna buy me a MacBook Pro so I can research this? :))

The Vegas version, as I know it: you pay $52 for the deck. Flip one card at a time, one trip through the deck, and the house pays you $5 for every card that makes it up to the foundation piles. So when that eleventh card makes it up there, you're making money. Otherwise, you're losing it.

So if you buy into DoND for $50 and wind up with $10 in your case, that's a net loss, yes? Same as if you walked up to a Big Six wheel and dropped a buck on every single betting space...you're gonna win SOMETHING, but whether you win more than you laid out is another matter entirely.

I'm not even gonna get into that, because I have no idea. All of the mathematical stuff is for someone paid good money to make those computations to figure out.

Yes. At the MGM Grand, it is in fact called Card Sharks, and works thusly:

Player is given a base card, which they may change. If they call three cards after that, they win even money, and a chance to play the Bonus Round, which is the same process. If they win that they win a second bet (as in, the same amount they won the first time), but if they lose in the Bonus Round, they go away with the even money they won the first time.
They call it Acey-Deucey.
Not exactly, I don't think. Acey-Deucey as I know it is a game where you are dealt two cards and wager as to whether the third card dealt falls between the first two in rank. So called because getting an Ace and a Deuce is the best start you could ask for.

(I don't remember the name now, but Mike Burger has a pilot on his Pilot Light page where this is the premise, moreso than Card Sharks was.)
