Oddly enough, no. The iMac Core Duo on my desk comes with Checkers, Chess, Reversi, Mancala, Backgammon, 4-in-a-Row and Tic-Tac-Toe, and my MacBook Pro came with no games at all.

That said, there's a terrific free version of solitaire for OS X here.

Wait a minute, I thought the only game that comes bundled with Mac OS X is Chess (which is basically GnuChess with a GUI). I guess the iMac Core Duos come bundled with extra games beyond that, though.

Regarding solitare, I like Eric's Ultimate Solitare a lot, if you ask me, and there's the freeware Klondike, which most resembles the MS version.

Then again, since the new Intel Macs can run Windows XP natively via Boot Camp, you can run Windows Solitare if you really want.

Well, hold yer applause on that. I've heard tell of stories of Boot Camp REALLY screwing up people's systems. As in, they can't even get back to the MAC partition to boot from again. So apparently it's a little more beta than people thought.

It's not even the same chess -- Apple licensed Big Bang Board Games for inclusion with the new iMacs. The games I listed make up the package.

It is indeed; although at least some of the reports are from people who didn't take the precautions Apple recommended, there are enough from people who actually followed the guidelines that I'd be hesitant to recommend its widespread use. Of course, I've been given a MacBook Pro for the next few months with the express intent of beating the hell out of it, so if I have to reformat, no big deal.

Parallels, while also beta, hasn't had similar reports of FUBARed partitions to my knowledge. And you don't need to reboot to use Windows. :-)

Haven't had a chance to hear much about Parallels yet, but I'm certainly more interested in that than I am Boot Camp, espeically if it's able to do its thing without much of a performance dive. If you can run an FPS decently through it, I'd be sold.

Pogue's coverage of Parallels in the NY Times suggest that it runs Windows slower than Boot Camp does. And--at least so far, in its beta version--DVDs don't play, USB ports don't work, and 3D graphics aren't.

Well, I expect that, since you still have the MacOS overhead when you're using Parallels, whereas Boot Camp allows you to run XP natively. The question is whether there is still enough performance left to run the stuff I'd want to run adequately.

If my MacBook Pro keeps f---ing up, I'll mail it to ya just to get rid of it. This one, as someone else said, only comes with chess, but of course I've played solitaire. My DVD burner doesn't work, and iWeb is just good enough to get me excited but then disappoint. And the modem keeps crapping out, though that may be because we now have two computers on it. But the two-finger-on-the-touchpad scrolling is cool.

Chris, "Split Decision" was based on In-Between, not Acey-Deucey. Us fellas would play it in the basement--there may be a different casino name for it. It's the one where if you bet "pot," you could lose hundreds of dollars if the middle card matched one of the others.

By jove, I never realized they were the same game. The Slots-a-Fun casino in Las Vegas, next door to Circus Circus, has Red Dog, as well as complimentary shrimp cocktail. Neither treated me very well.

Seeing as it was a Bally/Midway property, I'm guessing their name for it was in fact "Wizard of Wor".

Oddly enough, no -- since another company (CBS Electronics) had the home video game rights to Wizard of Wor, the Astrocade version was called "Incredible Wizard." Similiarly, the Astrocade version of Pac-Man was called "Muncher" because Atari owned the home rights to the original.

If memory serves, Bally didn't even own the Astrocade by the time those two games were released -- but I'll defer to others who are more familiar with the history.
