I have no problem if someone wants to remember the premiere date of every single pricing game on the show. I take extreme offense at a clique of fans getting on their high horse and saying I'm less of a fan, or less worthy than them because I don't know when the price of the Hot Pockets changed.
Yeah, this is kinda where I lie too...I feel less welcome over there, because I'm "uninformed".
And, if you disagree with them on something (like the Ten Chances idiot), well, you're damned there too.
Your experience on our site has less to do with your being uninformed than it does with you behaving...well, like a troll.  When pretty much your entire posting history consists of bitching about the show and calling the forumgoers obsessive nutcases, people aren't going to warm up to you.

Modor wrote, quoting Travis when he meant to quote me (when I jokingly asked about the price of Hot Pockets),

Why don't you go over there and ask them?

I dunno, seems like an awfully long trip when I could just click.

But then, when I was in London I skipped the Eel Pie, so I'm not sure I'd want to try this, either.

Erm...this wasn't me. I don't mind being thought of as snarky, especially when I'm being snarky, but not when I'm not... :)

I had a bit o' the pie. You're not missing much. The rest of British food gets a bad rap, but it's things like eel pie that ruin their reputation.

I watched another episode of the show, and if this was somehow the only version of "Price" that you'd seen, you'd enjoy it. Everyone who said that Bruce's PIR did things so well was correct. It seems like they're trying to overcorrect this time...

Here's my question: based on what of the posted episode I saw, it didn't look bad.

So is the knock really on Joe Pasquale? Part of the appeal of BPiR is that those doors open and BRUCE FRIGGIN' FORSYTH walks out. He and Monkhouse are really their Barkers, right? (And to continue the metaphor, Ant and Dec are their Dick Clark?) So instead of Bob Barker, they're getting the equivalent of Doug Davidson. Maybe that's what has people irritated?

He's annoying, but that's not what gets me.  The show wants to be a joke that fails.  It's just garish and cheap.

Well, I'm sorry you feel that way, because I think you're a decent guy...however, my opinion still stands that Mark's experience is largely his own fault.

I think his point is that whatever perception of elitism that is gleaned from the G-R.net population can't just be written off to "you're a troll, of course you think that." Maybe, just maybe, there's actually some elitism in there?

Is there a nested-quotes tutorial somewhere?  I'd really have liked to trim this some, but I made a bigger mess than the one to which I refer below.

I snarked about the price of HPs.  Modor quoted me (and snarked back, which is fine), and in the same post quoted Travis about something else, and the multi-quote thing made the post appear as if it were TLE who'd snarked about the Hot Pockets.  (So I'm not the only one who has trouble with the quoting interface, which is also fine).

TLE did comment about the Eel Pie.  But when my London producer, with whom I was staying and who was playing Johnny Tour Guide for me every chance he got, said, "That's a local delicacy.  And no, you don't want to try it," I decided to take him at his word.

So, clearly, the point here is that Eel Pie, brushstroke-looking Plinko fonts, and high-voiced hosts are all pretty much the same: local delicacies that not all tourists will enjoy.

We've had 4 great hosts in the UK, but to go back over a wide scale Leslie Crowther will always be the ultimate TPiR host here in the UK.   I loved the way he could control an entire studio, and he was brilliant at that.  It's not easy to do, but it was child's play to him.  I've watched the episodes I have many times over and I can honestly say he was one unique gameshow host I never tired of seeing.  There are 4 people in this country who I'd have to say were just born to be gameshow hosts:

Bob Monkhouse (Family Fortunes/Celebrity Squares/The Golden Shot/others) (1928-2003)

Bruce Forsyth (Play Your Cards Right/Generation Game/The Price is Right) (1928-  )

Leslie Crowther (Crackerjack/The Price is Right/Stars in Their Eyes) (1933-1996)

Ted Rogers (3-2-1 - his only gameshow but a damn good one) (1935-2001)

AAAAAAAUGH!!!

WHAT THE F***?

WHAT DID THEY DO TO THE BRUCE FORSYTHE VERSION?

AND HOST JOHN PASQUALE IS THE BRITISH AUSTIN POWERS EQUIVALENT TO ROTTEN SMELLY CHEESE OF PATRICK WAYNE!

THAT SET IS A SLAP IN THE FACE OF THE TPiR NAME!

AND THIS IS ANOTHER REASON WHY MALE MODELS DO NOT BELONG ON A SHOW LIKE TPiR. IT WORKED ON SALE, BUT HERE, SORRY BUT NO WAY, JOSE!

Can't be.  He used only one font, one font size and one color.
