New "Game Show" on PBS?
« on: June 16, 2006, 08:50:46 PM »
PBS has a new show that's part animation, part live action, part reality show, part game show, and it's called... FETCH with Ruff Ruffman

Ruff is an animated dog, and he hosts this show where six kids are given various challenges. Actually, 3 are sent out to do a challenge, and 3 stay in the studio to watch the action, because they are quizzed on what they see.

Ruff himself calls his show a "game show", and in some ways, it is. Points are awarded on how well the tasks are done, and the points are pretty much arbitrary. At the end of the show, the winner with the most points gets a prize... but it may not be a good prize, so the winner decides whether to keep the unknown prize or give it to another player.

Looking at it, it's hard to tell if the interaction between Ruff and the kids is scripted, or at least partially scripted, but it's still entertaining enough.

Anyone see the show?

I just taped this show so I could see it this morning.  Quite interesting.  The set is part garage, part backyard.  There's a virtual tour of it online.  Hey, why is this show airing at 3:30 in the morning anyway?  What kid is watching this?!  PBS Kids should not be a 24 hour channel!

I'm sure it airs at some other time.  Why did you even tape it?

What would they put overnight otherwise?  Julia Child?

With a nickname of "WhammyPower", I really don't think that's a stone you want to throw.

And why not?  There's a 24-hour channel for pretty much everything else.

There is.  It's called Sprout.  Check it out, Mr. Game Show Fan--it may make you happy.

I taped it so I could see what it was.  Since I didn't feel like staying up till 3:30AM.  It's also on local affiliates, but again...it was easier for me to just tape it.

I already knew that -- while Time Warner in Rochester doesn't carry it, I've seen it on DirecTV.

I was wondering why someone would think that a 24-hour kids channel from PBS should not exist, but then I remembered who made the complaint.
