I liked how Bill's description of what made Groucho such a great emcee was, by GSN's own admission (and Groucho's!) an urban legend.

"You know why I think Phil Collins is such a great singer-songwriter? Because he saw that guy letting another guy drown, and then wrote a song about him, and then debuted the song when the guy was at one of his concerts, then had him arrested after the show. Damn, Phil Collins is great!"

Easily, far and wide, without a doubt, the best night of the series so far.

Having nearly hurled when seeing Dog Eat Dog rank higher than SOTC, Blockbusters, and 21, amongst other TRUE game shows, and not smut-vision, tonight was a breath of fresh air. From my point of view, the 4 shows shown tonight are among my all time favorites, so I had a ball watching GSN for once. I only wish a Scrabble episode was leased and shown tonight, I would've been though the roof...

My only concern (and obviously I'm not alone) is that if these 4 shows, ones that most GS fans would consider classic formats with decent runs during their history, were ranked in the upper 20's and lower's 30's on their list, what is yet to come? *cringes*

Thumbs way up today, I totally loved the Tic Tac Dough epsiode, with my only small nitpick being that it wasn't an epsiode where Thom totally dominated. Otherwise, I loved it and it was good. I was very happy with the Card Sharks, because I only watched it the last time I saw it, and didn't have it tapes. Thumbs way up, and a good look into this week, which looks promising.

After GSN gave us one horrible week, they stumbled back on their perch (alright bottom step) with actual good game shows.  Most have us have probably seen these episodes that were featured tonight.  So GSN gave the non game show addicts a chance at seeing great episodes.

Compared to the what the 50 greatest game shows really would look like.

Tic Tac Dough would have been lower.  The Joker's Wild could have taken that spot.

You Bet Your Life is in the correct area but may be a little higher.

Card Sharks is probably in the right spot.

Scrabble should have lower.  It seems to be a copy of Wheel of Fortune.

Holy...gee...friggin...

...Wow.

In exactly *what* way is Scrabble a copy of Wheel?  The "Ooh, ooh, both involve putting letters into words" way that has absolutely no credit whatsoever, due to the mechanics involved being entirely different top to bottom?  The fact that both are game shows? The fact that both aired on NBC?

Que?

Well, the episode selection was pretty good tonight.  I would've liked McKee's $16,800 win, but that's okay.  The Card Sharks episode was a nice choice, even though there may have been better whole episodes.

Man, Jim Perry is good.

I had a debate on whether I should have included that statement and logic lost.  I take back that statement.

However, are both games a variation of hangman?

EDIT: Alright I give up, it was stupid.  I will try to stumble out of this deep hole I have dug for myself after a night's sleep.

Insert Lemon comment (It would not do much.)

Only in the most basic way (and really not even then, considering that if you play an E on Scrabble you only get a single E, and not all of them, and also the fact that Scrabble puzzles are only one word). Plus, considering the Sprint round, they're not even close.

Put it this way - Scrabble is about as close to WoF as Card Sharks is to Hit Me on TPiR.

Back to the actual marathon itself...

...for some strange reason, I never saw the episode before he lost, I always saw a few good ones here and there, and then the skip over to the last episode. As a matter of fact, didn't only a few of McKee's run make the Game Show Network TTD marathon some 8+ years ago? (or it may have been longer)

Watching that episode was an absolute treat for me. =)

As for Card Sharks.... classic. Here's hoping for some more excellent classics coming up! We haven't seen Pyramid, Password, Joker's Wild, and a few other great shows yet to come.

Clearly, this was by far the strongest night in this countdown so far.  Starting off with TTD(#32), I was hoping to see Thom McKee's ultimate demise, but the one where his total reached $312K+, I have no complaints.

As for Card Sharks(#30), this shows why Jim Perry was such a good game show host.  He can create tension so good, you had to cut it with a meat cleaver.  Man, that was one powerful episode featuring Norma Brown's "bank-breaking" episode sure made my night.

YBYL at #31 I really didn't expect to see, but it got a nice little mention.

The only real downner on this night was Scrabble at #29.  Personally, I would've seen a passing mention of CS at #30 since it's on GSN regulary & show a Scrabble episode instead.  Oh well.

In a moment of coincidence, last night's CS (Norma Brown) caps a day which also saw the Eubanks CS (Faith) $29,000 win.

That's COINCIDENCE, folks.
