didn't The Gong Show Movie air it un-edited, for one reason or another?
I've seen the movie, and it's not in there. However, Jaye P. Flashing is in there uncensored, which, if you haven't seen it before, you're not missing much.

This week starts with a double dose of Chuck Barris Productions goodness.  Here's how it went.

At #10, The Dating Game was intresting as far as the Andy Kaufman bit was concerned.  These days, you can go from a complete unknown to superstar status overnight litteraltly whereas back then, to go through what Andy did required some patience, good work ethics & a little luck along the way.  Afterwards, the episode went slightly downhill, but it still was a pretty good one.  I did notice some TH cues thrown into the mix including True Grit after the 1st gane finished.  It may've sounded a bit fast but at least it was neat to hear it.

At #9, The Newlywed Game featured that infamous 1977 "Maternity Day" episode that Eubanks claims never happened.  This is one of my Top 10 favorittes because you never know what those darn newlyweds would say.  The wierdest place to get the urge to make whoopie question sure made me think this was that so-called "urban legend" episode.  Poor Olga couldn't get an answer in edgewise when the bell sounded but at least thay won a whole nursery out of that deal.

This night was just another good one with 2 back-to back 1-hour showings at #8 & #7 awaiting us.

Alright, thanks.

Actually, one of the GSN Buzz members said that an uncensored clip appears in "Confessions of a Dangerous Mind".

This game looks dumb. It's like Love Connection in a way.

And yet, in the copy they aired on GSN, the entire phrase was blanked out, but on "Most Outrageous Game Show Moments," we get to hear the wife say, "In the ..." before the blank. Which makes me wonder: If the entire phrase was bleeped for the original NG broadcast, did the Chuck Barris people actually save an uncensored version that was newly censored for MOGSM?

If the entire phrase was muted (and not just the part after "In the..."), GSN must've re-edited the episode after they originally aired it a few years ago because it was intact back then.

I was under the impression the show originally had some kind of cuckoo sound effect covering up the offending phrase?

I wish I was counting the number of times I've rasied my head away from the computer and just pretty much went "WTF".  If I had a dime for every time that happened....

Someone needs to explain to me Andy Kaufman.  I'm sure he's funny, but not here, really.
I thought he was hysterical on this show.  It was obvious he didn't think much of "The Dating Game."  His "Vic Ferrari" personality from "Taxi" would've given the most obvious answer the "Santa Claus" question ("I was a very bad boy this year, but please leave a stocking at my house anyway!") but here, he acts like he's in a very strange world and can't grasp what's going on.  Hilarious, and bordering on performance art.  Props to Jim Lange for totally going with it.

I don't know if you've ever seen Man On The Moon, or know anything about Kaufmann outside of Taxi, but that was pretty much how he operated day-to-day. Mostly just to screw with people, too, was the vibe I got.

Not to get all Zachish, but Carlin was arrested for doing the "Seven Words..." routine in 1972 at Milwaukee's Summerfest, and it appeared on his "Class Clown" album if I remember correctly which was also early-70s. So it was well before the Juice got into the act.

Also, for the record, The Gong Show Movie has never been released on DVD, or for that matter on any home video format.  Copies are easily available since it's aired on television a few times.
This has been another installment of Matt Ottinger's Masters of the Obvious.
Stay tuned for all the obsessive-compulsive fun of Words Have Meanings.

Yeah, I caught it a month or so go on Sundance or one of those movie channels. It was really out there. The one thing I liked about it was that one song that I can't even remember the title of now. Somethin' about waking up.
