You're a CBS program executive for a day. Assuming:

a) a prime time slot, and

b) Ricki Lake as emcee

which GSM show would you bring back on a weekly basis?

My vote was for PYL, because it's definitely "active viewing," much like DoND, before all of the "This is Your Life" stuff got thrown in. Not only that, but it's a very recognizable show, and, pending the host is even halfway decent, can be a pretty decent show for CBS, I think. Heck, even if one didn't recognize the show offhand, it's very easy for casual viewers to understand the premise of the game and get involved right away.

I don't think they'd have to up the money from what they were using on GSM, but, if they really wanted to produce six-figure winners (which I guess is the goal of so many primetime game shows nowadays), based on what we saw on GSM, just double the dollar amounts.

My "honorable mention" would have to be CS, minus the car bonus game, for pretty much the same reasons...

My vote went to PYL because it was my highest scored episode from GSM. CS also would work in a weekly slot if they just ditch that poor excuse for a car bonus gane. I don't mind the one from the CBs version(Eubanks).

Anyway, PYL deserves another shot on TV. Its format is very recognizable & easy to follow along. Mu only hope is those slides better not be what they looked like on GSM Yuck!

MG with actual contestants. I feel that the show's execution was good, and the celebs had pretty good interaction. The questions had enough innuendo without making anyone blush in embarassment.

Use some D-listers like Kathy Griffin and Bruce Vilanch, who could prolly play off each other well. Throw in another semi-reg for Dawson's chair, and with the remaining three, I'd consider using three stars from CBS shows. It's good promotion for CBS' primetime lineup, and for the shows themselves. In a way, one hand washes the other.

With Ricki : Family Feud. I thought she was fine at it....and gawd knows better than Karn and Louie...

I voted for Let's Make a Deal because, of the seven, it is the show I would least want to see anyway, thus maximizing my chances of not having to watch Ricki Lake host any more game shows. (Full disclosure: I didn't see any of the GSM after show 3, so I can only base my opinion on what I did see.)

I'm trying desperately not to say anything about the "silent" votes for PYL so far. I'll just say that I think another poll, replacing "Ricki Lake as emcee" with "a pet rock as emcee", would have surprisingly similar results in that column.

Feud, which has the most recognition, the best chance for success with Ricki at the helm, and the most flexible format.

If I was just entertaining myself, I'd bring back Card Sharks, but maybe that can be further down the road.

I was really split between "Card Sharks" and "PYL" but I decided to vote for PYL because it might carry a bit more weight in "name recognition" and, if done right, could really be a very exciting game to watch on a regular basis (That's not to say "CS" couldn't be the same either).

"Match Game" has the advantage of having celebrities as a necessary part of the program, where the others don't, thus allowing for CBS show cross-promotion.

If Ricki's gonna be the host, it would be my hope that she could convince some of the people with whom she's done movies (John Waters, Kathleen Turner, etc.) to guest, although Kathy G., Bruce and Adam C. would be good as the Brett, Charles and Richard of today.

Set should be roomier, maybe have a telestrator instead of cards, superficial changes like that. Six or seven weeks for a half-hour would be ideal.

I voted for Let's Make A Deal (yes, I voted for a non-Goodson show).

Ricki wasn't the impediment on Let's Make A Deal; the celebrity contestants were the impediment. They were too blase about winning or losing, and it sapped all the drama and excitement out of the show. If played with civilian contestants, and not day-hire extras as on the Billy Bush version, LMAD has the most potential for suspense and surprises.

Match Game is a very staid format when you strip away the comedy and the personalities. It benefits greatly from shortening the writing time in post, which was not done on GSM. Kathy, Adam and Betty contributed a LOT. I would like to see a more flamboyant panelist in chair #3.

Card Sharks is fun and excitement and Ricki did a good job with it. Family Feud works a lot better without a whooping studio audience, a scenery-chewing emcee, and with the legacy Score Productions music.

If I were Herman Fremantle I would try to lure Barbara Hunter in to oversee my game shows. She has a wonderful sense of how these shows should be done.

Would Rip Taylor be considered too flamboyant? Or would he just be too old?

How about one of the IGAS panelists, say, Lewis de Caro?

It's Frank DeCaro, and you're right, he would certainly fill the flamboyant chair just fine. (Note #74 to GSM Producers: "Gay" does not necessarily equal "flamboyant." Bruce Vilanch is fine, but he's not a CNR type.)

But because they seemed to understand the game a little bit more than the others, and assuming we cut whichever show we do down to a half-hour, then my vote is for Match Game as well.

With the caveat of "Ricki Hosts," I opted for PYL. Ricki was loud, PYL is a loud game. A match made in heaven.

Without Ricki, I'd probably commission Match Game. If you need to do an hour, don't stretch one game out, do 2 or 3 games (with straddling).

IMO, PYL was the 4th best show in the line up (MG, CS, FF precede it. TPiR, LMaD, BtC follow it).
