I hope we'll still see the return of Penny Ante!

Todd Newton -> The Price Is Right = Katie Couric -> CBS Evening News

I saw Todd in Las Vegas. If he'd quit trying to be a cheap imitation Barker he might have a chance.

Well, the time has finally come.

Though Bob hasn't been my favorite host the past couple of years, he must still be given respect for how long and how well he hosted TPIR. My only hope is that Fremantle and/or CBS find a RESPECTABLE replacement (not even "great," though I'd like them to be good, but it'll be very hard for someone to immediately host TPIR, who can be truly called "great," right after the end of a run like Bob's).

I'm now beginning to ponder if this will send some waves through the GS world. Maybe, now that the old-timer of game shows will be leaving his post, if Pat, Alex, and/or Vanna will be slightly more tempted to leave then they were before...

Just a thought. Either way, I wish Bob the best in all he does after this year. He's more than earned it!! :D

Depends on which Todd. If it's the Todd that I know Todd can be, it could be good.

However, if it's the overacting Eubankesque Gus Glitz-clone, we're in trouble.

I'm still holding out for the possibility of it being Marc Summers.

I'm thinking about donating $1 to charity each time I'm emailed or commented on Buzzer about who should take over TPiR.  However, I don't want to be giving away a few grand so that may not be a good idea.

You know, while we knew it was coming eventually, isn't it a little nice that we'll know what the end date will be then just having a sudden stop, and also that Bob will get the sendoff he deserves, and more importantly, he'll be around to see it?

It should be pointed out that just because he set an end date does not 100% mean that he will be there to see it.  Just like there is not a 100% chance that any of us will see the end.

Good lord. And your screen name is "tpirFAN"  ? What a friggin killjoy.

You know what?  I'm not slamming Bob or anything by stating that point.  I'm not dissing the show or health in general.  Here's my point.  Bob has had health troubles in the past, and he is in his older years.  There is a greater possibility that something really severe could happen to him.  He's had strokes.  He has/had a clogged artery.  It is a grand testament to him that he's survived all that.

And before you get all pissy with me saying "You can't say anything about that"...back off.  I've had a relative that has survived cancer AND a stroke and is still alive today, but yet I've had a relative die suddenly of a heart attack while middle-aged.  Just becuase he said "I want to go out on top, and while I'm still young" or whatever exactly he said doesn't grant him immunity.  I'm just like the rest of you guys...I want to see him live to 100 or more (and he probably will).

I just interpreted weaklink75's statment as since he declared that he was done, he was guaranteed to see the end.  If I offended anyone, I apologize.  Just because I see things in more of a grim light than you doesn't give you free reign to go all crazy on me.

I got an interesting trivia question presented to me this afternoon.  Besides Barker, how many hosts have retired during the run of a show?  There's one obvious one, but I wondered if anybody has others.

Is Garry Moore the obvious one? Kind of a redundant question now that I think of it...

Prety much, yeah...

There are notable examples of guys who've chosen to walk away from long-running shows that kept going without them (Hugh Downs and Wink Martindale being two), but Garry's the only other example that comes to mind of a genuine retirement from the business.

No offense taken...I meant that, if it went well, he'll be able to go out the way he wants to and also (hopefully) help choose his successor, unlike what happened to Jack Barry (who, According to this page, if he hadn't had his heart attack, would have picked Jim Peck as his replacement for the 84-85 season of TJW instead of Bill Cullen).

Thank you , Bob Barker for coming into our living rooms for 50 years! And I wish you all the best in what you will do next.

The day Bob says "Have your pet spayed or neutered " will be a sad one for America come June. It will rank up there with Walter Cronkite anchoring CBS Evening News for the last time in March 1981 when he passed the seat to Dan Rather, and Johnny Carson retiring from The Tonight Show and NBC in May,1992 when he passed the seat to Jay Leno.
