Two questions: 1) does the first to Bingo get to play as the contestant?
I would be shocked if that were the case, because it means anyone in the audience, none of whom were screened by incompetent contestant coordinators, could be the next central contestant. Those days are over.
Quote
2) in the event of a wrong higher/lower guess, I'm assuming the number on the ball isn't add to the contestant's point total, but they take the risk of someone getting their Bingo first.
Makes sense. The longer the game goes, the larger the chance of someone beating them out

Yes, if someone guesses incorrectly, the total isn't added.  I'm guessing there's going to be a variety of rounds.  They only sent me the first game.  If they don't have enough, though, it's going to get old very quickly.  To be honest, I was bored after the first game.  It didn't evoke any positive or negative emotion out of me.  I don't know if contestants carry over if they win or if an audience member comes down or what happens with the black balls.  They are supposed to send me the finished episode soon, so we'll see what exactly happens.

There will indeed be a variety of rounds, much as TPIR has its own variety of pricing games.  I'm not sure how many different games the producers finally settled on, but I'll estimate between half a dozen and a dozen different kinds of rounds that will air.

It's 3 Bingo games.  The first two acts of the show took up one audience game of Bingo + the Bingo 500.  The pacing is rather slow.
If the audience game and the Bingo 500 were two separate occurences, then I don't think the pacing is all that slow.  A round per segment is pretty good by today's standards, and even 1 per 2 segments isn't all that terrible.

Also note that Bingo isn't exactly a high-octane game to begin with.  Granted 10 seconds is probably a little too long to check for Bingo, some people are slower than others.

It's my understanding that the two games happen concurrently.

And whether or not it's slow is all gonna be in how fast they draw the balls. Now, they need to get enough balls into play such that people at home think they might have a chance to win, so I'm not sure if it's going to be a problem or not. But I don't see how you, not having seen it, can make any kind of an educated assumption about the show's pacing.

Considering that a lot of people can check nine cards in that amount of time (and that it's not time-dependent for the folks at home, and they will edit out studio lag to a fine paste, bet on it), no, that's not unreasonable.

My mother in her prime could do 32 cards without markers.  I'm just glad she has appointment TV again.

If they get too many balls into play, people may turn off out of principle.  ^^;

At last informal glance, a segment took anywhere between 7 and 10 minutes.  From what was described about the procedure, plus some computations about how long it would take to draw 500 points, it should take about 45 seconds-1 minute per ball, which is a little slower than desired, but like I said, the game doesn't lend itself to being fast.

Strangely no hats or charms, although the few times I ventured into the bingo hall I usually left frightened.

At bingo halls I seemed to win at everything BUT bingo.  Pull-tabs, the special games, etc. Walked out once with over $500 without winning a single bingo game.

Went on the ABC web site to get some info on the home viewer game, which they're calling "a seeded instant win game" to avoid gambling charges and to reflect the fact that it's a pre-taped show where the producers already know the outcome.

Cards will be available the Friday before each week's telecast and will drop off at midnight Thursday before the telecast.  Each page will have three cards on it, one for each game and given color-coding (with the color names on there for people with black-and-white printers).  Ed will announce before each game which card is being used.

If you get a traditional five-in-a-row bingo before each game ends, you are a winner and have from the end of the telecast in your time zone until 6 p.m. ET Monday to go to the site and claim your prize.  Since I assume the cards will have an alphanumeric code on them, that will determine which prize you win.

The big home viewer prizes each week are $50,000 cash and a $10,000 Kmart gift card.  Other prizes will include special ABC-themed "fantasy" prizes (trips to the sets of ABC shows, the "Dancing With the Stars" finals, etc.), along with Kmart stuff, cash and various ABC swag.

So now you know about the home viewer part.

Here's a linky to the official Prizes page.  I'll probably play along...the possibility of a free $5 KMart gift card and/or a Rascal Flatts CD free would be worth my time, I guess.

What made me lol a little bit was one of the Blue Card "drawing prizes"...a trip to New York City to visit the set of The View.  I only wanna go if the Donald and Rosie are on the same show.

Well, because that's exactly what it is. On the back end, when you ask to have a card printed out, some randomizer decides whether you are one of the 50,000 winners or whatever or not (I can't remember if it's "50,000 winners" or "1 in 50,000 will win), for each of the three games. If you are, it gens you up a winning card, if you're not, it doesn't. The actual "bingo" part of it is chrome, but it's interesting chrome. There's no more gambling here than there is when you get french fries at M.C. Donald's and check to see if you got Boardwalk.
