The National Sports Collectors Convention is in Cleveland this year. I spent my afternoon there. One of the new releases available at the show is the Topps line of Allen and Ginter cards. In this year's set are a subset of 20 world champions, one of which is Ken Jennings.

I bought a box and got a KenJen "rookie". (The price guides will consider it a rookie card since it is KenJen's first official trading card.) A big scan of the card can be found here. The Allen and Ginter set also has KenJen game worn shirt cards and KenJen short printed autographed cards. A good number of the shirt and autographed cards have found their way to eBay.

Dammit, my mom threw out all my game show champion cards when I moved out of the house. I know my Tom McKee had to be worth $12.00. It was in mint condition!

From what I can tell, it's a thicker version of the regular card with a smaller card inside. I don't get it either.

/Screw the card within a card. Bring back the stick of chalky gum in every pack.

What's next, Upper Deck presents game worn Game Show Legends series, complete with the Michael Larson card, featuring a piece of the 5,000+ a spin slide.

It's been done, at least with football cards. Donruss' Rookies and Stars product had (has?) a subset called Slideshow, which were 35mm slides or 35mm slide film mounted onto normal card stock.

Not having been into sports cards for a while, I do recall seeing small pieces of "game worn" jerseys attached to cards, however actual slides I've never seen, sounds interesting.

*snicker* That describes almost every product nowadays--a combination of 2 to 6 autographed cards or memorabilia (game used jersey, bat, shoe, ball, helmet, or glove swatches) per box, if not a signed card or memorabilia card per pack.

I miss the old days of HOOPS and Skybox NBA cards...

(Baseball cards stopped being fun to collect once all of those boutique "premium" brands started coming out. Upper Deck commenced the shark-jumping.)

He moved out here after the Jeopardy run, but I believe at the time he was from Utah. (I would guess Ken can tell us for certain himself.)

As dedicated fans of his blog know (cough cough), Ken moved to Seattle a bit after all of his J! appearances. He may have lived there in the past--I know his father lives there, at least going by his moniker on the J! boards.

I would blame Fleer (Flair) or Press Pass (the company I thought was the first) to use game/race-used memorabilia.
