How long is the schedule of every other week for taping supposed to go on for? Does he really tape that many episodes of Power of 10 the other weeks?

I liked the Sushi Bar set. It was understated, yet the lighting gave it gloss and drama.
Something Jeopardy doesn't need. The fast paced action creates its own drama.

Quote
The current set is truly awful. There are too many materials with no rhyme and reason to the design. There's no order to where one's eye should go. There's no motion.
Again, perhaps the backdrops could be rethought, but at least they're not loud. I think the colors are just right to make it quiet enough.

Both sets of lecturns have been clunky,
I disagree. I think the current lecturns are quite sharp.

Quote
and the type on the score monitors is compressed too much and is aesthically far worse than the old LEDs.
Definitely the worst part of the current set. And when the worst part of the set is the font on the score monitors, that's not too bad.

Quote
Jeopardy deserves an iconic set, and this one is really, really dreadful. Classy? Classy in the same way a TPIR car backdrop is classy. I can't stress how dreadful it is.
To each his own. I like it.

The colors are gold and silver--that's quiet? I think the current lecturns are better than the others, but the proportions aren't right--they'd be better off taking old ones (if they hadn't auctioned them off) and sticking a potted plant on either end for the widescreen.

And what do you mean, to each his own? You're wrong and stupid! (Just kidding.)

I think my biggest gripe is that it just looks a little too..."random". To me, it looks as if they found every backstage prop they could, and hung it from the rafters. I guess it just seemed like a radical departure from the sushi bar set, which I actually liked, contrary to a lot of opinions. OTOH, maybe the art director wanted a throwback to the 60s Password set. ;-)

It's not enough to drive me from the show; J!'s prolly my fave of the bunch, has been for years, but it's definitely a random set.
"They're both Norman Jewison movies, Troy, but we did think of one Jew more famous than Tevye."

Now celebrating his 22nd season on GSF!

RE: the original topic...I'm really excited now.  It'll be interesting to see how this will turn out.

RE: this J! tangent...I liked the 91-97 set (the grids).
When you're at the grocery game and you hear the beep, think of all the fun you could have at "Crazy Rachel's Checkout Counter!"
I honestly don't see any of the things you are complaining about. It looks like...a Jeopardy set. And if other people can't see them either, maybe you should take a second look at where the problem might be?

Alternately, the show could move to widescreen-only distrubution (like Conan O'Brien does), with letterboxing for SD television screens, and you could join us in the 21st century. :)

Isn't the average viewer of the show, like, 90? Squish their clues, and they'll incite a riot at the station....

Boo-friggin'-hoo. The ONLY way we're going to get this conversion to HD and widescreen over with is if people start DOING IT. I'm getting really tired of the television industry pandering to the change-resistant because they are petrified of losing a couple tenths of a ratings point that is quickly losing relevancy anyhow.

Perhaps the "change-resistant" (myself included) would start DOING IT if an HD set of comparable specs to my current set didn't cost fully four times as much. Just because you're willing to throw money at it doesn't mean enough other people are, until the cost comes down further.

The current J! just looks thrown together.  It's too playful for my tastes.  About the only thing I like about it is the floor.

Personally, my favorite set is the one used for the Masters Tourney.  Very distinguished.  Second is what I've always called (for some really weird reason) the "electronica" set or the grids.

And you folks will absolutely be able to purchase an inexpensive converter box that will allow you to use your old TV's. Complaining about the price (which is dropping like a rock, by the way) is a poor excuse.

"Change-resistance" includes "getting used to the idea that things will be in widescreen going forward, and that's gonna mean letterboxing for some people."

But I'll be damned if I'm gonna stand here and let some 97-year-old bitty who is having a hissy-fit because the clue font dropped two points on her 1962 Sylvania stand in the way of technological advancement.

This gave me one hell of a chuckle, even though I know you're 100% serious. :)

Those change-resistant people are probably the same ones who think pan-and-scanned films give you more of the picture, because it "fills up the screen", even though it cuts off a good 40% of the picture on the side.
