Syndie "Deal" to go on a model diet

According to the latest article from Variety, the 2008 syndicated version of "Deal or No Deal" will not only play for lower stakes, but will also feature much less models -- three of them. The other cases will be held by "civilians", in hopes that they will play in a future episode, like the British version.

Wonderful.

Although I would have liked to see them go all the way and use 26 civilians.

I found this more interesting than any news item about DoND.

At least two more new syndicated gameshows are in the works for 2008-09, both offshoots of network-primetime games: “The Power of 10,” from Sony Pictures TV, and “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader,” from Twentieth TV.

I'm really curious how they will do Power of 10 as to not make it seem completely cheap and keep that whole 10 theme.

It's slowly appearing that the new syndication model for game shows is completely opposite of the original model.

Old way : 5 day a week daytime Network Success leads to one night per week nighttime syndication offer.

New way : One night per week nighttime Network Success leads to five days per week daytime syndication offer.

I'm not sure which one is better.

And with the exception of Millionaire, the dailies offer lowered stakes, while the weekly syndie shows offered much more (Kennedy NTT, Dawson Feud, Fleming J!, MGPM, etc.). Then again, the contestants continued winning on the daytime shows, and could build up just as much, if not more, than the weekly contestants who appear once. Either way, I'm not complaining, but I do find it ironically humorous.

Would love to see how they're going to make a half-hour show of the two slowest game shows in primetime...assuming they will be 30 minutes.

I think it was mentioned that DOND will be 30 minutes.

On the same token, I envision that the syndie DOND will run much faster than the nighttime version, with less stalling.

It's come to this: We consider one million dollars "cheap".

$100-1K-10K-100K-1M, I'd wager.  That'd seem to me to be just fine.

When did I ever say that?  That was implied and shouldn't have been, probably by my wording.

The easy fix for the show is to divide the money by 10.  A vast majority of the winners during the summer season were $1K and $10K winners.  Transfer that to the easy fix for a daytime version and you have a majority of $100 and $1K winners.  Sorry, maybe I've been jaded by the new bigger money shows, but a majority of $100 and $1K winners is cheap and horribly boring.

And I don't think $1M is cheap nor is it some giant figure as it was around ten years ago because essentially everyone offers it now.  It's standard to me by this point.  I have no problem with it.  I'll start to become horribly bored by winnings that make Crosswords seem rich.

$1000 in my pocket is neither cheap or boring to me.

Um, I'm not sure where you got the idea that it *wouldn't* work that way. The three models don't necessarily have to be case models.

And just for extra incentive, with only 3 models & the rest civilians, why not offer a guessing game like tha Austraillian version for, say $1,000?  I wouldn't mind seeing that.

As for 5th Grader?, it might work as a strip except do the ladder like this:

$50,000**
$25,000
$10,000
$7,500
$5,000
$2,500*
$1,000
$750
$500
$250
*milestone marker
**11th question = double the 10th question or $100,000

As for Po10, simply dividing everything by 10 from the prime time version works for me.  Not sure if Sony's willing to pick up another one besides WoF & J!

Some extras that we've talked about on PoX could be added to make the game a bit more easily to swallow prize-wise...extra cash for a correct guess, etc.

Something tells me that we won't see cheap prize budgets if the correct people are behind the show. I don't see  any of the major networks allowing their prime shows to be cheapened to T$ levels.
