Big change to TPiR's eligibility requirements
« on: November 08, 2007, 09:39:49 PM »
From the Orlando Sentinel's blog (and Marc Green at golden-road.net):

Quote
Big news at "The Price Is Right." If you've been a contestant, you can play again.

The long-running game show has revised the rule that if you played once on air, you can never play again.

There is an important restriction, though: You can't play again if you were a contestant in the past 10 years.

<snip>

"The eligibility clause was drafted 36 years ago --  who would have thought!" executive producer Syd Vinnedge said in a statement. "Now, in our 36th season and with a new host, we feel folks should be able to experience 'Price' with Drew and have a chance to come on down after 10 or more years."

That's good news.  I wonder if Yolanda Bowersly could come back on the show.  It would be good to see them...I mean, her again.
Let's Make a Deal was the first show to air on Buzzr. 6/1/15 8PM.

Are they that short on contestants that they have to do this?

Seriously, why is this necessary?

If it means less frat boys, and more contestants who can actually play the games, then I'm all for it.

Sounds to me like it was just a low-pain way to add something interesting to the game--Drew gets to ask them about what they won before and such. It's also nice for the approximately 1/3 of all modern TPIR contestants who won a telephone because they didn't get out of Contestants' Row.

Exactly my thought...it's great to be on TV for just a few seconds, but being the contestant called before the sixth game...well, that kinda sucks. It would be nice to get a reprieve.

While we're at it, let's bring back Patricia Bernard so Drew can experience the "She's in the rest room" situation.

Which would be better than experiencing the rest room situation on stage...

That means my wife has 6 more years!

One nice thing about being the last one called  -- you know EXACTLY what you could have won had you made it up.  (A Range, a generous supply of ibuprofin, and a new CAAAAAHHH).

And BTW, she didn't get a phone for being stuck in CR -- only a bar set and and a Hoover Steam Vac -- pissed me off that we got shortchanged!!   :-p

I think, overall, this is an unnecessary idea.

However, it's a lot less fair to be the last contestant called to "Come on Down"...and have only one shot at the stage compared to potentially 6.  I think that, if anyone, "contestants not appearing on stage" should be eligible to take another shot.

But I think it's bad form to see someone playing Plinko who played the Clock Game ten years ago.

And, if you think this is going to cut down on college hippie contestants , you're way off.

Not someone who was one of the first four who never made it up, though.

I'd make the cutoff two chances or less.  Three is borderline.  Four or more means you didn't get it* the first time around.  But that's just me.

/*Unlike Drew, who appears to get it.

It's a good idea, they just picked the wrong show.
