"Allot" is a legal clue, but a bad one for the password in question, so the contestant basically shot herself in the foot. This is all spelled out in the rules.

This is similar to what happened on
Super Password during a Tournament of Losers, I think. It was during a bonus game; the password was "often," and Constance McCashin said what I thought was "a lot," and I thought she was going to get flagged for an illegal clue. It was only later, when I was taking a business class in college, that I saw the word "allot," and then it hit me regarding this rule. (Bert Convy, unfortunately, never bothered to explain this ruling to the home audience.)
