Hi everyone,

Does anyone have a reliable source as to exactly how many episodes of this version were produced? There's a raging edit war going on as I speak on the Wikipedia page on the show, because "approximately 40" doesn't satisfy one participant who says it must be either an exact (documented) number or nothing goes in the article. (I'm not sure she knows that the person she's arguing with is a five-time Trebek-version champion with extensive knowledge of the show. He keeps explaining exactly how the number was derived, and she keeps calling it a "guess.") I'm thinking it was probably 39, allowing for 13 weeks of summer reruns, because that seems to have been the standard back then, but if anyone can point me to a reliable source, I'd appreciate it.

Wasn't 39 episodes the norm for syndie back then, Hee-Haw or Lawrence Welk as examples?

Do any of those episodes still exist? How many quads are floating around?

That makes the most sense to me as well, but that's not something you're going to get past the self-appointed [echo]Solemn Protectors of Wiki Minutiae[/echo].

I think the number of shows produced varied from show to show. The 1976 Break the Bank only produced 24 nighttime shows. I used to keep records of the celebrities and reruns started popping up in March. I believe Cullen's $25,000 Pyramid produced 30 per year; and other shows were likely at 39.

John (and wheeloffortune.com isn't an acceptable source for statistics on itself, either)

I happen to have the NAPTE issue of Broadcasting from 1974, and it says that 36 episodes would be available. Not sure if that ended up being the final number, but just another fact to gum up the works.

Jeopardy related I had seen the Twilight Zone movie from the early 80s and wondered in the Kick the Can segment how Spielberg found an episode of Jeopardy and if that exact one exists today

Did ANYBODY actually create daily syndicated product year-round? From episode guides and other sources, we know for a fact that WML? and TTTT didn't program 52 weeks a year of new product. And if G-T wasn't doing it, I have a hard time believing anybody else would go to the extra expense.

Meanwhile, to crib a piece from an old SportsNight episode, 36 is an odd number. The use of a specific, unusual number like that, when 26 or 39 would have been more common, seems to be awfully compelling evidence that this is the number of shows they made. I don't even think the SPoWM would have a problem with that.

You give the SPoWM far more credit than they deserve.

It's actually interesting...we've talked about what a surprising success Wiki's been in the past, but an interesting part of the social experiment seems to be coming to the surface now: Wiki's not being ruined by trolls and vandals, it's being ruined by these asshat self-appointed Wikicops who are insisting on seeing six sources for every piece of information, instead of stepping back and letting the experts be experts.

If I am not mistaken, and not to dredge up certain people, I aquired a copy of that episode from PoC about a year or so ago! It also had a player who's bar buddies said he should try out, and a nanny who wound up tying the champ at the end.
