Most game shows announced at one time
« on: March 10, 2008, 04:39:19 PM »
I was wondering, who has announced the most different game shows at one time? Two I have thought of were Gene Wood who at one point from the Fall 1988 to Spring 1989 announced for Super Password, the daytime and nighttime Family Feud, Card Sharks and I believe also the daytime and nighttime Win, Lose Or Draw. Also, since Kenny Williams announced for I believe every Heatter-Quigley game show except for Magnificent Marble Machine, at various points he would have had several shows at one time.

It's been established that Rich Fields set the record a couple summers back with TPIR, BTC, PYL, LMAD, MG, and whatever else was on Game Show Marathon.
Let's Make a Deal was the first show to air on Buzzr. 6/1/15 8PM.

I feel like that's a bit shady. Technically, yes, he announced all those. Or, he announced for one show: Game Show Marathon. I dunno.

Yeah, forgive me if I slap a big fat asterisk on that.

(Especially because it was completely and utterly wrong, technicalities aside: when he was announcing PYL, the only other show he was announcing concurrently was Price, because he wasn't announcing BTC anymore.)

/but I'm sure that won't stop him from milking the shiat out of it

I don't believe that record should hold up either. I count GSM as one show.
Also, wasn't there a show (or two) that Rich didn't announce at the taping? I thought I read that someone announced it and Rich went back in and dubbed his voice over it. I want to say one was the Let's Make a Deal episode. Come to think of it, did I read that Randy West actually announced that in-studio? I could be mistaken.

Yeah....the Rich Fields "record" is full of minutia. That was one program. That would be like saying that Ernie Anderson announced on every single ABC program in the 80's. He was the staff announcer for promos and voicers over credits (remember those days?).

I'll say Gene Wood or Johnny O. or even Johnny Jacobs, with all of the daytime and nighttime versions of Barris productions and The Joker's Wild.

But not Rich Fields.

The record Rich was claiming to "break" was announcing the greatest number of different game shows in a year (held by Johnny Olson IIRC), not most at one time.

Was Gene still announcing for Love Connection in 1988?

A slightly different bent on the other responses... he didn't announce all of these at the same time.  He announced TPIR (daytime) while announcing the others, but he announced LMAD... then he announced BTC... then he announced PYL... and so on, and so on, and so on.

I'll put my vote for Johnny Jacobs.  Wherever there was a Chuck Barris show, he was right there in his announcing gig(Treasure Hunt, The Gong Show, TNG, TDG, $1.98 Beauty Show).  Even Break the Bank '76(although that wasn't a Barris production), he was right there.

Well, how many shows was Johnny Jacobs doing in 1975? He had at least the tail end of "The Joker's Wild" and its two replacements - "Spin-Off" and "Give and Take", as well as some episodes of "Rhyme and Reason" (on which he alternated with Jim Thompson). Was "Treasure Hunt" still going?

Those shows didn't all run concurrently. I think at the most, he would've announced four at the same time in fall-1978: Gong, Dating/Newlywed, and Beauty Show.

And Dave, yes TH was running as of 1975.

No, sir. He announced for that show during the 1986-87 season, replacing Rod Roddy.
I believe Rich Jeffries announced from 1987-88 and Johnny Gilbert from 1988-89.
