I'd put a frontrunner at Carey just because he succeeded Barker ("sympathy vote") with Bailey, Trebek, and Viera next.

Local Emmy Judges don't care about sympathy. What they 'do' care about , is the pizza being served during tape review, and the t&a on the screen.

Game shows initially broadcast in primetime during the hours of 8:00 PM and 2:00 AM Eastern Time and the corresponding primetime period in the other time zones are to be judged and presented as a part of the Primetime Emmy Awards competition and ceremony. Game shows broadcast prior to 8:00 PM are eligible in the Daytime Emmy Awards.

And there you go
Indeed.  So the correct answer is that they made a specific exception for game shows that was written to directly target syndicated programming and not cable.  So the long-awaited Alex Trebek/Heidi Klum smackdown is once again put on hold.
Oh, Alex--ah you in or ah you aut?  :)

Seriously, I'd love to see the Reality/Competition Host Emmy presented as an elimination process throughout the show, using the elimination shticks from the various shows.  Give the hosts a little taste of their own medicine.

And at least one "And we'll find out who's been eliminated--after the break!"

When I worked in TV, I knew some of the people who sat on the local Emmy panels. I don't think they cared about the pizza, either, so long as it was there. :)

Bet they'd love it if Howie gets nominated.  :)

And I bet the hosts will be making entries--in fact, I'll go ahead and predict the Reality-Competition Host nominees:

Jeff Foxworthy
Howie Mandel
Jeff Probst
Ryan Seacrest
Either Bergeron/Harris, Drew Carey ("TPIR MDS" or "Po10"--take your pick) or Phil Keoghan
I think Howie, Jeff and Ryan are locks. The academy's love affair with Amazing Race (5 straight wins) makes Phil a lock to me as well.

The fifth is a toughie. I think they'll take a big gulp and put Bergeron and his tagalong up -- simply as a nod to the show. I'd love to see Drew get it, though or, just for shiggles, Alton Brown for Food Network's Iron Chef.

I can't see Heidi, Padma, Tyra,

The non-competition shows (which are also clumped into the same Host category) are a tougher read. There you get into folk like Ty Pennington and Mike Rowe. If one of the slots ends up going this route, I'd give it to Rowe (as long as he showers).

Which Jeff--Foxworthy or Probst?

Oops. Probst. I see this first set of nominations as being a "we woulda if we coulda" list for the shows that have been around for a good while.

I'm not firm on what I think of Foxworthy on that show. I enjoy it but not sure how much he adds to it -- and I'm not sold on the give-the-host-the-answer-through-the-IFB technique.

On the daytime side, there's apparently a new twist to the process.

When the nominations are announced Wednesday morning on The View, the winners will already be determined.

According to TV Guide, the second round (post-nomination) of voting has been done away with. The round that's been done did indeed select the winner.

So, what we're getting today is, in essence, a top-5 (or whatever) finishers list. They'll just keep the winners to themselves until the ceremony.

I'll take Jeopardy for the Outstanding Show winner, and Ben Bailey for Outstanding Host.

I actually think Cash Cab has a chance of winning both.

I agree. As Impressed as I have been with Price's new look and host, I really want Cash Cab to win this year.

I'd love to see it win, if for nothing else, to allow the show to get a little more notoriety and not completely fall off by the wayside.

I think "The Price is Right" will win the Best GS Emmy while Alex Trebek gets the Best GS Host Emmy.
