Program Partners to provide options to stations...

Apparently it's going to be early 2009 before any new episodes of Crosswords are produced... any ideas why?

I'm going to guess this has something to do with it.

Which is typically the reason you cancel something, not postpone it.  In what way do they expect the economics of it to change appreciably in a few months?

The article notes that Program Partners owns the U.S. rights to 195 episodes of Canada's "Inside the Box" and is making it available "immediately," which might well be an improvement.

There is a lot more to the spin that Colbert alleges in the story. In the many years that I've been in this business, I can't remeber a show getting picked up, and then, 3 months before the premeire, allege production cost issues as a reason for postponing a show.

This could very well open Program Partners up to a serious lawsuit, from every station group that purchased Crosswords as a viable programming option. 3 months before Sept, and the stations are now left scrambling to find alternatvies, most of which by now are bought and accounted for.

Just a blind guess, but I suspect it begins with "it" and ends with "sucks."

EDIT: "the costs were outweighing the returns"? Yep, that's the financial way of saying "it sucks."

When you're at the grocery game and you hear the beep, think of all the fun you could have at "Crazy Rachel's Checkout Counter!"

That's such a shame, though; I really liked the show. Let's hope In the Box is just as good. Maybe.....

I thought game shows like "Crosswords" were cheap to produce. Guess not in this case.

And this is what happens when they "raised" the stakes in Round 3 towards the end of the season?  Give me Inside The Box anyday to ease my mind after what I just read.  Sheesh!

Didn't Ryan go on "Inside the Box?"  Does this mean us Yanks will get to see his appearance?

I suspect there are a lot of "ifs" that have to happen before that does.
