WMAQ has decided that "New Year's Eve with The Tool" should hit midnight in the Central time zone instead of the Eastern time zone (as in the Times Square festivities--keep Clark, Seacrest and Cat Deeley out of the shots!) and is delaying it an hour Wednesday night. Since the NHL Winter Classic live from Wrigley Field is airing on the network Thursday midday and pre-empting "DOND" in Chicago, the Thursday "DOND" eps will air Wednesday night at 10:30 p.m. and 11 p.m., respectively.

Since I haven't checked, is Fox doing a New Year's Eve show again and is Cat Deeley hosting it again?

Of course, it is commonplace for non-Eastern stations to tape-delay New Year's Eve celebration shows to 11:30PM local time, so the ball at Times Square would drop at Midnight local time, instead of 11PM Central, 9PM Pacific, 7PM Hawaii. In Central and Mountain, where prime-time generally ends at 10PM, stations would have to find some filler programming to show between the 10PM news and the 11:30 celebration.

As for the NHL game at Wrigley Field, if Harry Caray was still alive, I wonder if he would be tempted to sing "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" after the 2nd period?

A tape of him singing is how NBC has been pimping the game, so I'm reasonably sure that if he were still alive that might have been on the agenda.

/How fitting. My 3600th post, and Addison Street (where Wrigley Field is) is 3600 North in a grid of Chicago.

Warning: roadgeek tendencies.

The address is 1060 Addison Street. The 3600 comes from one of it's perpendicular streets (Sheffield, I believe).

In other words, Wrigley's address is tied to the east-west street, and not the north-south street. I hope this helps to some degree.

They are and Cat is not. Your hosts will be Spike Feresten and Mark Thompson.
On CNN, the big bash will be helmed by Anderson Cooper and Kathy Griffin as opposed to when I first gained access to the channel and at midnight Eastern time, the audience would be treated to Newsnight starring Patrick Emory and Beverly Williams.

Going further roadgeek than TIO, the "center" of Chicago is the corner of State (0 E/W) and Madison (0 N/S) (even though Lake Michigan obliterates much of the East). If you walk two blocks west on Madison, you end up on Clark Street (which at that point is 100 West). From there, it is 36 blocks (actually a few more because of some intermediate streets that intersect but the address numbers don't shift to the next hundred) north to Addison Street (3600 North). Even though you stay straight on Clark, Clark veers a little diagonally as you head north (so the 100 West eventually becomes 1060 West by the time you arrive at Wrigley).

I miss those days. That was preceded by Nick and Hick with Sports Tonight.

Although those were the days when SportsCenter was a lot less full of itself and I probably should have been watching that.

With a catchy theme song. When Gayle Gardner or whoever would end the show 40 seconds before the hour and we got that extra blast of The ESPN Sportscenter theme in the clear, it was gasm time.

Sheffield is 1000 West on its eastern side, parallel to the Red Line. One would then assume the address is between Clark and Sheffield (but we just give it on the Addison/Clark border)

God, do I ever love me a well-defined and fairly consistent grid system. Just today, it helped me determine if a cop on the scanner had said a crash was at Larrabee or Laramie.
