Polly Bergen is currently appearing on Broadway with Mark Hamill in a new play called "Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks." It explores the relationship between a lonely older woman (Bergen) and her gay dance instructor (Hamill) who comes to her apartment to give her lessons. I saw it over the weekend, and Polly is excellent! She looked great! I can hardly believe she's 73. Her performance was the highlight of the evening. It turned what was otherwise a mediocre and predictable play into something quite good. It's definitely worth a look for Polly fans in the area.
I met Polly after the show when she came out of the stage door, getting her autograph and taking a picture with her! I said to her, "I watch you on the old To Tell the Truth program. They show it on the Game Show Network. Do you remember that? Bud Collyer?" Everyone around us laughed. She said, "Oh, of course I do! I was on it for five years!" I then said, "You always had trouble figuring out if it was 1, 2, or 3." She said, "Oh that was all just an act. I was just smart enough to act dumb!"
She was great, in top form! It was awesome meeting her!
