I think what bugs me most is when someone says they're not a fan of game shows at all.  My sister's husband is one of them...I remember during WWTBAM's great success of about 10 years ago, we were all watching the show at my place one night and he said he's just not interested in the genre.  In fact, they even get GSN on digital cable but recently told me they've never watched it.

I can understand people not being as fanatical as us...but to just not even casually catch an episode or two here and there...I just don't get it!

Sorry to say, I know one person who actually programs it out of her remote so it skips GSN.

It frustrates me to no end that the Toss Up Rounds on Wheel don't populate the letters as if they're being called by a contestant (all of the R's at once).

Maybe cause I suck at the Toss Up Rounds when playing along at home...

When I still watched J!, I missed most of the season premieres because I lived in markets where the stations ran the Jerry Lewis telethon. (The stations didn't stop pre-empting, but eventually J! started their seasons the following week. If anyone knows for a fact, I'd like to know whether this change was a direct response to finding out about the low clearances.) In St. Louis specifically, it's on an NBC affiliate, which means I missed it due to golf, tennis and It's a Wonderful Life.

While you're at it, explain to your friend that Paul Lynde was married to Rose Marie.

Yeah, sure. Next you're gonna tell me that Dick Sargent appeared on "Tattletales" with Fannie Flagg as his gal.

Oh. Wait a minute. Strike that.

Funny that this would happen at work, as we've just been talking about this here. While dealing to my boss and her friend at the casino, we were talking about the 70s Match Game. The boss's friend insisted that Brett Somers and Charles Nelson Reilly were married. I tried to explain that Charles was gay, but she would hear none of it, so I didn't press the discussion any further.

Good luck trying to explain to her that Charles was on Tattletales with Elizabeth Allan, Julie Harris, Karen Morrow and Dody Goodman. For a gay guy, Charles got around, didn't he? Of course, Charles wasn't as "bitchy" as Paul Lynde.

I think it's safe to say we all know that CNR was to MG as Paul Lynde was to the Squares. I have often wondered if the two of them ever crossed paths, or what they thought of each other, etc.

A check of imdb and a double check of my back issues of TV Guide reveals both men appeared together on Marshall Squares for several weeks in 72 and 73 prior to the start of CBS Match Game

They worked together even earlier than that.  CNR was the understudy to Dick Van Dyke in the original stage version of Bye Bye Birdie, the show that made Paul Lynde a star.  Their careers took similar yet markedly distinct paths since then, rarely intersecting.
This has been another installment of Matt Ottinger's Masters of the Obvious.
Stay tuned for all the obsessive-compulsive fun of Words Have Meanings.

I believe Dody Goodman also appeared with Richard Deacon during the '80s version.

I once left the P+ office on a Friday afternoon with CNR and Karen Morrow booked as celebs. When I arrived at the studio Saturday morning, CNR's booking had been abruptly cancelled and someone else (I forget who) booked in his place. During rehearsal, on mic and in front of everyone assembled, there was hostility in Allen's voice as he referred to Charles as a "creep".

When I asked why Charles' booking had been cancelled I basically got "homina homina homina".

Here's one from back in 1998.  When I was working at Cumberland Farms, we had this guy named Jack working there.  Another dude jokingly called him Jack Barry, then said "Isn't he the guy who used to host High Rollers?"  I didn't even bother to correct him.

Wow!! Allen had done MG with Charles before. Maybe something happened that never got out to the public.

Well, from his vantage point on MG, maybe Allen thought Charles might be looking down on Betty.
