HS98 - Rule/Format Changes
« on: April 29, 2009, 02:03:11 AM »
I have a question,

When (or which celebrity line-up) did the rules change from R1-2: $500/R3: $1000/R4-: $2000 to the R1-2: $1000/R3: $2000/R4-: $4000 and the bonus round change where a contestant must earn the bonus prize rule.

Thanks!

Chuck Donegan's Illustrious Game Show Page says the lineup was Malcolm-Jamal Warner, Naomi Judd, Al Roker, Caroline Rhea, Jamie Foxx, Ben Stein, Gilbert Gottfried, Wendy Liebman, and Whoopi Goldberg.

Actually, I seem to remember at least one episode from that week where the bonus was still automatically awarded.

And if anyone wants to rush to his or her VCR/DVR to catch when this rule change will occur, the week mentioned is airing on GSN now.

Actually, the increased maingame payoffs and bonus round change didn't occur at the same time...while the maingame doubling did take place during the wk Chad mentioned, the question in the bonus round was implemented the following wk.

Chuck Donegan (The Illustrious "Chuckie Baby")

I seem to remember an episode from November '98, when a male contestant racked up (I think) $14,000 in maingame winnings. Did the score change happen before or after?

If after, he would have had to win only four with three non-scoring rounds.. I'm going to guess "after", even though seven rounds seems highly unlikely anyway. Maybe you're confusing his maingame total with his main + bonus total?

He either won the first two or the third round, and then all the $4,000 rounds after.

Incredible. I assume, if fostergray82 memory is correct again, that this episode will be airing in The Not Too Distant Future?

/Probably not Next Sunday A.D. however.

Where are they in the run now? I believe the Flo-Jo week just recently aired, and I remember that being week 2 (Sept. 21-25)...IIRC, this ep. aired the same night as Wheel's 3,000th episode. A little ATGS search shows that ep. airing on Friday, November 20, 1998.

/I can't remember yesterday yet I remember game shows from over a decade ago.

I believe GSN is five weeks into Bergeron HS Season One. So we've got a good solid month to go before the episode in question airs.

/Man, I have too much free time on my hands today.

The episode could literally show up at any time.

GSN's airing this season in taping order (as they usually do), but the episodes originally aired completely out of order. Case in point: the first two weeks GSN reran were first seen in December 1998, while the first aired week has yet to rerun.

GSN's also skipped over a few episodes; they've skipped over the fifth taped week entirely.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't a match (before season 5) continue towards a round worth $8000, only to end up at the horn?

If this is any help, it was posted back when Bergeron's Squares first debuted that the premiere episode was actually No. 24, taped 8/22/98.
